    3. Hi Dana, Sorry, not my husband's line, before you get too excited! However, Walter Foggo Ireland was minister of North Leith Parish Church, first as assistant to David Johnston from 1799 - 1824, then in sole charge from 1824 - 1828. If you know any more about George Ireland, other than what is on IGI, I would be interested. Thanks. Best wishes, Sheena Ireland -----Original Message----- From: Dana Frantz [mailto:frantz_mcmanus_genealogy@hotmail.com] Sent: 04 February 2005 11:48 To: MIDLOTHIAN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Ireland family of Edinburgh - 1800s Dear List, I am trying to help my wife trace, and extend her knowledge of one branch for her family. One of her cousins completed some research several years ago and established most of the following. The family we are interested in is the family of John Balfour Ireland (believed born December 11, 1821 and Barbara Baillie Ireland (nee Scott) (believed born May 16, 1816). According to the information I have John and Barbara were married on May 17, 1843. I believe that John’s occupation was as a banker in Edinburgh. According to my source John’s parents were Walter Foggo Ireland (born August 8, 1775 who married Margaret Spalding? sometime between 1804-1806. Walter’s parents were George Ireland (born August 3, 1742) who married Jennet? Foggo on October 30, 1774. I believe that John and Barbara Ireland had at least four recorded children. In order of birth they were Barbara Georgina Ireland (1845), John Alexander Ireland (1846), Catherine Mary Alice Ireland (1849), and Jane Ireland (1853). Catherine Mary Alice is my wife’s great grandmother. We know she arrived in Australia sometime before July 21, 1871 as she married Thomas McCusker in Ballarat, Victoria on that date. What we have been unable to establish is 1. if she came to Australia by herself or with one or more members of her family; 2. if any of her family remained in Scotland, what became of them? If anyone on the list is also descended from this family, or has information on what happened to the other members of the family, we would welcome contact and sharing of information.
