I have a large tree figured out for William Wilson Mitchell. William Wilson Mitchell was born in 1840 in Edinburgh, Scotland to Grierson Mitchell and Margaret Wilson. Some of his siblings were: Full Brother Grierson Mitchell b in 1836, St Cuthbert's, Edinburgh. His father (Grierson Sr.) had previously been married to Christian Patterson, so William Wilson Mitchell had 3 half siblings from his father's first marriage. They were: Hugh Mitchell b 1807 George Mitchell b 1808 Elizabeth Christian Mitchell b 1810 In 1865 William Wilson Mitchell married Mary Hume Craven Smedley, she was the daughter of E.H. Smedley Judge of Colombo, Ceylon. I think they were married in Ceylon. In 1868 he was Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. Had only been on the island for 6 years prior. I have evidence that he lived in both England and Ceylon. 1891 Census he was living in Maybank Crsnt, Woodford, Essex, England. In 1895 He was appointed unofficial member to the Legislature Council of Ceylon He was knighted in 1900 In 1900 I have a clip from Dod's Peerage: MITCHELL, Knt. B.uhel. Creat. 1900; U.M.G. 1895.-Sir William Wilson MitcHELL, s. of Grierson Mitchell, of Edinburgh, by Margaret, d. of W. Wilson, of Edinburgh. B. 1840; m. 1865, Mary, il. of E. H. Smedley, judge of Colombo Ceylon -googleboks In 1900 he Represented the Ceylon Tea Industry at the International Exhibition in Paris In Dec 1915 he died at the age of 75 (I think) Sir William was intimately involved with affairs of the country from 1862 when he arrived, to 1915 when he died. In 1919, his widow donated the bell for the church at Ceylon, Sri Lanka. I know the names of some of the children born to WW Mitchell and his wife Mary Smedley. What I know are: William Edward Mitchell born abt 1870 Mary W W Mitchell b abt 1876 Edith L Mitchell b abt 1878 Kate M Mitchell b abt 1880 Euginie J E Mitchell b abt 1880 Dorath H S Mitchell abt 1887 (there could be others) Son, William Edward Mitchell married Ada Constance (surname unknown). They had at least one son, named Frank Alexander Wilson Mitchell born abt 1913. Frank AW Mitchell married and had a daughter. His wifes name is unknown to me, but his daughter's name is Barbara Joan Mitchell born about 1930 Barbara married Ambrose Cambridge Barber, and they had at least one son, James Christopher C Barber born about 1958. Grierson Mitchell Sr. (Sir William Wilson's father) was born in 1783 to the parents of Hugh Mitchell and Marion Grierson. Hugh and Marion had 12 children, of them was my 4th great grandfather, Robert Mitchell. Robert was born in 1784, he was Grierson's younger brother, by about a year.
