Hi Roberta, I have connections to Peter DUNCAN (b 1841, in Tranent. d 1907 in Utah) who married Anne McNEIL (b c1838 in Gladsmuir). They were members of the LDS church. I also have REID connections in Tranent through my BROWN grandmother. I can't find a John O. McNEIL unfortunately but do you recognise Anne in your line?
