Alan, I am not a resident of Edinburgh but used to know it well, and I have maps ! Inch House appears to be still standing on the SE side of the city. Presumably the Gatehouse was where your ancestor lived. It would be on the A68 and on the other side of the road is Bridgend Farm ( as was ) which is still on the modern maps. Don't know where you are, but if you have maps it is just N of the new Royal Infirmary at Little France. If you don't have the maps. if you contact me I will scan to you.
