Hello List I am new to Midlothian research, being in "middle England". Can anyone please offer me any further sightings of the following chap who dangles in my extended tree. This is my note from 1881 Scottish transcript of census: 1881 There is an England-born, 41 year old Andrew KURTZ in St George's Hospital, Midlothian - inmate. 685/1 Registration district: St George Civil Parish: St George County: Midlothian ED: 4 Page: 18 Household schedule number: 78a. This fits "my" Andrew on age, and I can't find him anywhere else. I wonder what brought him to Midlothian: the family were manufacturing chemists and tar distillers in S Lancashire & N Cheshire. Did he come north for the shale-oil industry? Or was he "sent away" to an institution? Any sightings or information about Andrew, or any other KURTZ, in the area would be greatly appreciated. Andrew's generation are mostly born Liverpool, some in Manchester area. Jacqui
