Hi Allison, I was born in Uphall and in my early childhood our family was neighbours to a James Ross. His wife`s name was Grace Darling Ross. They had one son James and a daughter Ainslie. The "Darling" name is not at all that comon in the Uphall area so it looks promissing. The son, James, became a C.of S. minister and married Joyce Pinkerton, the daughter of Rev. Pinkerton of Ecclesmachan and Ainslie became a teacher. I don`t think Ainslie ever married. The son James was I believe my first friend, probably from age of five years into early teens. He died very early in life, in his forties I believe. There were only two Ross families in Uphall at that time, the other being Alexander Ross who had a licensed grocery.
