Hello Listers: I'd like to follow-up on two items: 1) On the 1891 Census of Newington, I find a female ancestral kin by the name of Agnes WATSON b. Mid Calder MLN, aged 19, who is listed as "student F.E. Training College" --- would appreciate if some lister out there could enlighten me on what the full name of this college is/was and what type of training students could obtain there. 2) Her brother, Walter Tait WATSON, b. Mid Calder MLN, was 32 years of age, and studying law in 1901 (presumably at Edinburgh University)......... & ultimately became a Kings Counsel ( the KC was according to family 'folklore'). ---where might I write to confirm his status as a solicitor/lawyer?? Thanks in advance for your assistance Jim Arnott, Canada

I can confirm that he was indeed a solicitor, then advocate, and then KC. He is listed in The Scottish Record Society's "The Faculty of Advocates in Scotland 1532-1943, with genealogical notes", published in 1944. The entry reads: ====== Watson, Walter Tait, MA LLB. Admitted to the Faculty of Advocates 18 Mar 1902. Son of Walter Watson MD, Mid Calder, born 9 Mar 1869, died 18 Sep 1929. Educated for UP Church, KC 10 Oct 1921. ====== Kelly's Handbook for 1929 gives his address as 60 Great King Street, Edinburgh. Forrest -- Forrest Anderson - British Military Genealogical Researcher.
