Hi Listers, I really enjoy reading all the messages and keep hoping that someone will be looking for the same family that I am. I have a problem that has run me into a dead end and wonder if anyone would have any suggestions that I might follow. I have my grandfather's birth certificate which shows his birth date as 1 oct, 1883, Berries Court, Dalkeith. His parents are listed as George Baptie and Isabella Cowan, married August 31st, 1883 in Dalkeith. At this point I have no further information going back. I have checked Ancestry.com at our library, have looked at all the info on the LDS site, gone to our local Family History Center, and checked every site on line that I know including Genuki and all those that come up when you put "Scotland Genealogy"in the search line. Ancestry.com has nothing on either one of them. The LDS on line has several people of those names, but none that I can connect for sure. The FHS in Midland got me the 1891 census for Dalkeith and the 1883 Scotland Church records. Neither one listed anything that would help me. For some reason the FHS has not copied the BMD list for the year 1883, but can't tell me why.. I have to assume that the family moved sometime between 1883 and 1891 from Dalkeith to ????? I have no idea, but do know that they stayed in Scotland. At this time I am not willing to put my credit card on line for Scotland's people as I recently had my computer hacked into and really messed up and had to have it rebuilt. Am not ready to trust that all is well with it yet. A helpful lister sent me the LDS list for the Baptie's some months ago, but without knowing the parents of George and Isabella, I am at a standstill. Any ideas would be appreciated. (I too, am from the US and too far away to personally search in Scotland.) Thanks, gretchen Michigan, USA
