    3. Hi Gillian Your website is great and encourages me to get on with my own - have only the title page so far! You mention Carriden which is where my husband's family are from. I wonder if you would be kind enough to help me with my "brick wall"? My husband's great grandfather ALEXANDER CANT BLACK was born in in CARRIDEN in 1837, his mother was MARY CANT and his father is named as WILLIAM BLACK, carter on his birth certificate although his parents never married. I have the 1851 index for Carriden and Alexander is living with his mother and another female relative. There is a William Black but he is married to someone else. I wonder if you have fuller details on your Carriden Census and also details of these people on the 1861 Census which I do not have. I have MARY CANT'S death certificate; she died in 1876 at Cowdon Hill Carriden. I wonder if you would also be kind enough to look at the death records for WILLIAM BLACK who was 39 in 1851. If the death was notified by ALEXANDER it would confirm that this W B was his father. With many thanks for any light you can shed on the family. Barbara Black > >
