This actually might explain a lot of things: why Duncan had two irregular marriages, why there is no burial record for him, why I can't locate a christening record for him. Would the College Kirk in Edinburgh have allowed a marriage between a Catholic and Protetant in the 1790's, early 1800's? Were there Catholics in East Lothian at that time?
