Hi Neville, You should be looking in the census records on Ancestry.com or Scotland's People. This looks like William with his father John and John's sister Isabelle in 1891 taken from the Ancestry records. 1891 Scotland Census about John Seaton Name: John Seaton Age: 63 Estimated birth year: abt 1828 Relationship: Head Gender: Male Where born: Inveresk, Mid Lothian Registration Number: 690 Registration district: Kirknewton and East Calder Civil parish: Kirknewton and East Calder County: Midlothian Address: Main Street Occupation: Boot & Shoemaker ED: 3 Household schedule number: 186 Line: 13 Roll: CSSCT1891_361 Household Members: Name Age John Seaton 63 William Seaton 25, Son, Occupation Draper b. abt 1866 in Inveresk, Midlothian Isabel Lockie 65, Sister, No occupation given, b.c. 1826, Inveresk, Midlothian This is probably William in 1881 with his grandparents NOT his parents. Ancestry makes a lot of typos. You need to check original census records on Scotlands People. Also his brother...note the middle name of Patrick. 1881 Scotland Census about William Seaton Name: William Seaton Age: 15 Estimated birth year: abt 1866 Relationship: Son Father's Name: George Mother's Name: Jessie Gender: Male Where born: Musselburgh, Midlothian Registration Number: 685/1 Registration district: St George Civil parish: St George County: Midlothian Address: 27 Collins Place Occupation: Apprentice Draper ED: 113 Household schedule number: 99 Line: 16 Roll: cssct1881_283 Household Members: Name Age George Johnston 61 Jessie Johnston 61 Isabella Johnston 23 John Patrick Seaton 20 William Seaton 15 Regards Judith ----- Original Message ----- From: "Neville Rasmussen" <jimmyjamjar@cybersmart.co.za> To: <midlothian@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 20, 2010 8:05 PM Subject: [MIDLOTHIAN] Seatons pre 1900 Greetings All! I have just joined this list as part of my efforts in tracing the Scottish side of the family. My particular interest is The Seaton family who lived in and around the Edinburgh area William Seaton (commercial traveller) can't find his birth date. He emigrated to South Africa in 1900/01. He was married to a Jane Chalmers Sandilands b1870 d1901 in SA. They had 4 children William, Mina, Charles and James (born in SA). John Seaton (father of William) (shoemaker) b1829 d1899 Married to a Margaret Patrick b1839 can't find her death date William Seaton (father of John) birth and death sought is listed as deceased on son Johns marriage record in 1859, he married Elizabeth Bell b1801 can't find death record William Seaton father of William no details married to a Jacobina Brown no details Some of the wives came from further afield in East Lothian, Berwick and Coldstream but the Seaton men seem to all come from Cannongate, Inveresk, Leith parishes of Midlothian. In which records am I likely to find any siblings of these Seaton men?
