    3. Liz I will send you privately the info that I have about that part of the line if you want me to. It is too late at night here to give you a fuller response but I will try to tomorrow. Night & thanks Gerry McGregor "As long as there are leaves in the forest, and foam on the river, McGregor's despite them, Shall flourish forever." -----Original Message----- From: midlothian-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:midlothian-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Liz Dempster Sent: 10 June 2010 23:18 To: midlothian@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MIDLOTHIAN] Twiss and Scotland ? Hi Gerry: There are times that I find Scotlandspeople very expensive but to minimize the costs I use www.familysearch.org first to narrow down my search so I don't have to go through by process of elimination using credits up. What I like is the digital picture of the original documents, I have found out so much information that way. I have seen transcribed documents, but sometimes they are left to the transcriber to guess what a word is. I like to guess myself. Back to your Twiss family, do you think the John Twiss listed in my search of deaths below is yours? There is a Twiss family with a John Twiss 7 years old in 1891, born Midlothian Liberton Father Matthew, 32, he was a Baker by trade, Mother Elizabeth, 29 sister Elizabeth, age 6. Now I don't normally actively search for others on Scotlandspeople, usually when I have some credits and I am not getting anywhere in my research, and I do not know how my interest was peaked with this name, but this will just amaze you...... While looking for a marriage for your John and Anna I did not find their marriage but I found a death record for 1942 and his wife was listed as Anna Bridget - last name Rei(?) last letter hard to read. He died at Willowbrae Nursing home usual residence, 1 Brunstane? Road Joppa. ALSO in this search I found a 1953 marriage of John Joseph Twiss and Mary Aitken Laing. Mary Aitken Laing is a name in my tree, albeit one born in 1879. However the Laing family is quite extensive and they tend to name all their children in the Scottish naming pattern, so this one may very well be related. The actual marriage record is not available for me to confirm her parents, but I just found a birth in Portobello for 1929 and that is where this family hails from. So now my interest is beyond "peaked" because I have confirmed a family in Portobello and the two births I could confirm through death records are a boy, 1926 and one 1927 (unfortunately died in 1928) but would have been my dad's cousins. Their mother Cecilia was my grandfather's sister. Due to the privacy act for information, I have been stalled in my search for this family, so this is the type of find that I bite the bullet and order a document. There is also a birth for a John Twiss, 1925 St. Andrews, ED. and a David John Twiss George Square ED, 1959... I have found by purchasing documents important information that has led me to living relations, contacted them and found them to be excited to tell me about the family. Sometimes it is worth purchasing. So.....I have a gut feeling about this one and I may be thanking you later for posting online your TWISS family, and perhaps we are distantly related. I will be looking into this further. I may have some contacts in Edinburgh who just might have some information on this. Regards Liz Dempster. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gerry McGregor" <gerry@mc-gregor.org.uk> To: <midlothian@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, June 10, 2010 6:24 AM Subject: Re: [MIDLOTHIAN] Twiss and Scotland ? > Hi Folks > > Thanks for those who have responded to my quest.
