Hello everyone, Recently I've been interested in the discussion about the INNES surname which I knew I had on file. Here's how I'm connected via a sister of my great grandmother Ann/Annie LOCKIE who was born 1830 in Midlothian, Scotland. *** Her parents are Andrew born 1799 Legerwood near Bassendean, Berwickshire & Elizabeth (Betsey) HARDIE born 10.8.1798 in Dalkeith, Midlothian. Betsey died 10.2.1855 Lockend Road, Leith, Midlothian. Andrew & Betsey had 7 children. My Annie LOCKIE arrived in Melbourne,Victoria, Australia on the "Tay" on 17th August 1855 with her sisters Jessie born 1835 Dalkeith, Elizabeth Hardie born 1832 Midlothian & Margaret born 1830 in Dalkeith, MLN....twin to my Annie. Annie married 28.1.1856 in Ballarat, Victoria to John Russell GRUNDY in the cottage/house of Mr.A.LOCKIE. This Mr.A.Lockie is possibly the father...I don't know when he came to Australia after his wife's death February 1855. Annie's sister Elizabeth H.Lockie married 21.11.1855 in the cottage to William McIntosh/Macintosh. Jessie married 1.12.1857 in the Wesleyan Parsonage, Ballarat, Victoria to Joseph Atwood DOANE. & must have gone back to Scotland...as at the 1881 census she was down as aged 40 with husband Joseph aged 54 a ship builder living at North Leith, MLN. They were living at 3 Church Street, North Leith with Jessie's sister Margaret aged 49 who was then a widow. I don't know when she went back to Scotland..perhaps with Jessie. I know Margaret married 9th December 1856 to Robert INNES (a ship Builder) in Leith, Midlothian. Robert & Margaret had 1 son I know of ...Peter born c1857 Kinghorn, Fife, Scotland who was christened 24.12.1857 in Leith Methodist Church, Midlothian.... Nothing known about him.. ***** Is anyone connected to this INNES line of Margaret's husband Robert. I have him born 26.4.1828 in North Leith, MLN & chris.3.5.1828 in Keith, Banff, Scotland. I have his parents down as a William INNES & Anne nee INNES born 13.7.1795 & chris.22.7.1795 Keith Banff, Scotland who married 27.2.1825 in Drainie, Moray, Scotland. I have her parents as a James INNES & Jean GEORGE. I look forward to hearing from any connections to this INNES surname.
