    3. Hello Jan I have no connections to this Innes family, but the birth of only 1 Peter INNES was registered in Kinghorn between 1855 and 1865 (source: birth index on the Scotlands People website); and according to the IGI Index on Family Search, that Peter was born on 2 February 1856 to John INNES and Agnes HERD (this was an extracted record, and not member submitted). I could find only one child born to Robert INNES and Margaret LOCKIE and that was Robert INNES born 4 December 1857 in Leith (again this was an extracted record). I had a look at the image of the marriage record for Robert and Margaret on the Scotlands People website, and according to that Robert's parents were Robert INNES, shipbuilder, and Mary BROWN. Margaret's parents were Andrew LOCKIE, merchant, and Elizabeth HEARDIE (sic). In 1861, Robert and Margaret were living at 1 Regent Street, Leith with their son Robert, 3, and a servant, Margaret Anderson. According to the census entry, Robert was 33 and born in South Leith. Margaret was 30, born in Dalkeith. Robert was still a ship builder. In 1871, Margaret was a widow, and a lodging-house keeper at 18 Bath Street, Portobello, Edinburgh. The household was as follows: Margaret INNES, Head, widow, 40, Lodging House Keeper, born Dalkeith, Midlothian Robert INNES, Son, 13, scholar, born Leith Jane FIFE, sister-in-law, 33, assistant Lodging House Keeper, born Leith Robert FIFE, son, 7, born Edinburgh Albert FIFE, 6, born Leith Irene HALDANE, 75, general servant, born Dalkeith The death of a Robert INNES was registered in Leith North in 1866 (Scotlands People death index). The birth/baptism of Robert INNES on 1 June 1827 in Leith South, son of Robert INNES and Mary BROWN, is listed on the Scotlands People OPR birth/baptism index. Also listed are 3 other children for this couple: Crighton Wishart INNES 1832, Gilbert INNES 1834 and Jane INNES 1836 - all in Leith South. The marriage of Robert INNES and Mary BROWN is on the OPR Banns and Marriages Index: date 3 November 1826, South Leith. Robert and Mary were still alive and kicking in 1851, and living at Old Church Street, Leith North where Robert, 54, was a shipbuilder employing 12 men and 11 apprentices. Robert Innes senior was born in Edinburgh. His wife Mary (Brown), 55, was born in Falkland, Fife. As well as the children listed above who were all living with their parents, there was another son James, 22. The death of a Robert INNES aged 60 was registered in Leith North in 1857. The image of the death registration may be downloaded from the Scotlands People website. It should give you the names of his parents, including the maiden name of his mother (assuming the names were known to the informant). It is a paysite but the costs are reasonable once you have identified the correct certificate. The costs can mount up using the search function to find the correct person. Images of the other registrations mentioned above may also be downloaded from the site. I will send you the image of Robert and Margaret's 1856 marriage record off-list. see: www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk Rhoda ----- Original Message ----- From: "Janette Pfeifer" <janpfeif@dcsi.net.au> To: "MIDLOTHIAN Rootsweb" <MIDLOTHIAN@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 14, 2010 7:20 PM Subject: [MIDLOTHIAN] LOCKIE / INNES connections. > Hello everyone, > Recently I've been interested in the discussion about the > INNES surname which I knew I had on file.
