Hi Ruth, Cockpen was part of what is now Bonnyrigg, If you have a look on Google Earth you'll find several references in the area, including Cockpen and Carrington Parish Church. I've sometimes found Margaret appearing contracted as Marg. (and therefore easily confused with Mary) in records, could this be the case in your census record? Steve
