    3. Hi Rhona -- Well, the 1855 marriage document for Patk. Gilmartin & Bridget Earley in Haddington, ELN, lists her birthplace as County Mayo, Ireland, abt. 1834, with her parents listed as Cormac Earley and Catherine O'Donnell. She was considerably younger that Patrick, and it was her first marriage. The 1881 UK Census shows a Patrick Gilmartin born 1810 and wife Bridget in Haddington, who are probably them. Again, I suspect that Patrick was the father of the James Martin married to Mary Dignan, the product of Patrick's first marriage to Catherine Pow. Patrick & Bridget had a daughter Mary born 13 Oct 1856, at Haddington, ELN, where the parents are listed a Patrick Martine (the "e" on the end usually denoting Scottish lineage) and Bridget Earley. The family folklore is that Patrick came to America. This could be the Patrick Martine & wife Bridget who appear in Galena, Jo Daviess County, Illinois in the 1860 US Census... who may have returned to Scotland later, reverting back to using Gilmartin by the 1881 UK Census. Bridget may be a relative to your Earleys -- hard to say. Bill
