    1. [MIDLOTHIAN] The town of North Chideock... in East Lothian Couny, too?
    2. Bill Martin
    3. Can someone help me with this town name please? In the 1871 UK Census the family of Irish-born James Martin & Mary Martin (nee Dignan) were living in Whitekirk & Tynninghame, East Lothian County, Scotland, and the birthplace of daughter Mary was listed as "North Chideock, Haddingtonshire." Now, there is a well-known North Chideock in Dorset, England. Is there a North Chideock -- or a town resembling that name -- in East Lothian County (the former Haddingtonshire)? The two eldest daughters (Bridget and Catherine) were listed as born in Ireland, like the parents, and all other children except for Mary were listed as born in Prestonkirk, ELN, SCT. The 1861 UK Census, incidentally, had different birthplaces listed for daughter Catherine (in N. Berwick) as well as Mary (in Prestonkirk), with the surname of the family misspelled Merton (as per Ancestry.com). Did the estate owner in OverHailes/East Linton/Prestonkirk also own one in Dorset? The family worked farms in Prestonkirk, Whitekirk & Tynninghame, and Whittingehame parishes, ELN, SCT. I've also cross-posted this to the SCT-EAST-LOTHIAN-L listserv. I am also trying to trace other Irish from counties Leitrim, Sligo and Roscommon, Ireland, to East Lothian County, Scotland... Martin/Kilmartin/Gilmartin, Duignan/Dignan/Degnan, McNally, Bohan, etc. Happy to hear from you. Thanks in advance, Bill
