Hello Julie, Could it be KILEITH or KENLEITH which is up and over the Pentland Hills towards Balerno and Bavelaw? This was next to the northernmost parts of the parish of Penicuik. We have an Alexander WILSON on our family tree who was a blacksmith there http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=kosmoid&id=I15490 http://www.nls.uk/maps/os/oneinch_1st_list.html here is a link to the Edinburgh OS map from 1855. Look at sheet 32. South west of the city, a bit south of Balerno and Currie. A possiblry related blacksmith from there "General Wilson" became an advisor to the Russian Government in the 19th century and developed many industries and state workshops, with flax spinning along the lines of the business found on the Water of Leith at Malleny.. Haven't seen the text image myself at scotlandspeople. Best Wishes, Roger in Penicuik www.makers.org.uk/penicuik/displays ----- Original Message ----- From: "CandROverson" <overson12@btinternet.com> To: <midlothian@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 18, 2010 1:21 PM Subject: Re: [MIDLOTHIAN] Help with Placename in Penicuik > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Julie McDonald" <jm751802@bigpond.net.au> > To: <MIDLOTHIAN@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Thursday, February 18, 2010 10:37 AM > Subject: [MIDLOTHIAN] Help with Placename in Penicuik > > >>I have a record of John Veitch and Janet Crawford from the LDS film of >>BDMs >>in Penicuik - birth of their son John 1787.
