Dear Listers, I have three Stevenson ancestors who were variously recorded as fishermen and river pilots. They are also recorded as all drowning on Black Friday, having got caught up in the storm of 14 October 1881 off Dunbar, being aboard the vessel Stormy Petrel. Is there anywhere that might record whether this vessel belonged to the family and what sort of vessel it would have been? Also, were they river pilots simply because of their knowledge of the local waters or would they have been employed and/or paid for this? TIA Melvyn.
