Ron, many thanks. I'm impressed at that bit of detective work. Might be the person I'm looking for. More digging to do. Nice to know that bit of old Edinburgh is protected. Joy
Thanks Rhoda. I thought those buildings might be tenements. I had other relatives living in Warrender Park Terrace at the end of the 19th C, but I know they all emigrated to Australia.

Hello Joy I don't have access to a street directory, but Warrender Park Terrace overlooks the Meadows in Edinburgh. It is a street of (late Victorian, I think) tenements of about 5 floors, with probably a couple of flats (apartments) on each floor. So there may have been 10 or so flats in No 38 Warrender Park Terrace. Rhoda ----- Original Message ----- From: "J. Does anyone have access to an Edinburgh Street Directory for 1939? I am very keen to discover who was living in 38 Warrender Park Terrace at that time. A relative of mine sailed from South Africa to Southampton and gave her destination as c/o that address. I haven't been able to find any online links for old Edinburgh street directories, unlike Belfast, where a lot are freely available thanks to the work of volunteers. I would appreciate any help Joy
Hello all Anyone researching the above names please. Trying to find a death of William CAMERON born abt 1826, St Cuthberts a bookbinder son of William Cameron and Janet Lindsay I have POSSIBLE marriage for a William CAMERON and Eliza FORSYTH 1848 St Cuthberts with children William King Cameron, Joseph Cameron and Euphemia Cameron. Eliza was a widow in 1861 and the family is in the 1851 census. Between 1851 and 1861 William died. daughter Euphemia CAMERON 1851 - 1937 married Alexander Handyside RAE 1878 (son of Alexander Rae and Jessie HANDYSIDE) they where Grocers and Wine Merchants. Finding it difficult to find any information about Euphemia Cameron born 1851 Edinburgh between 1861 where her mother was a widow living with a Georgiana Winton as a servant, and 1878. I am wondering if Georgiana WINTON who was the proprietor of 30 Pitt Street looked after the children after Euphemia's mother Eliza CAMERON m.s FORSYTH died in 1866 as I have a death place of 30 Pitt Street in 1937 as the residence of Euphemia RAE m.s CAMERON. Brother William not found after 1851 and Joseph after 1881. Kindest Regards Kristina Cameron (NZ)
Thanks Jacquie for the help. I don't doubt the information on the death certificate but had hoped I could substantiate the information, anyway if I cannot I shall just move on, thanks again. Dianne Oh, by the way we enjoyed a couple of days in your fair city last October, especially enjoyed the museum and the art gallery.
I'm trying to confirm the parents of Robert ADAMS, born abt 1807 in the parish of Edinburgh. Robert's death certificate states his parents were Robert Adams and Catherine Slater. So far using Family Search and Scotlands People I have been unable to find a birth or baptism certificate for Robert. Can anyone help me please? Thank you, Dianne
Not all births and baptisms were recorded in the OPR for a number of reasons (SP has a good explanation of those reasons in their FAQ section). Is there a reason why you doubt the information on the death registration? The National Library of Scotland has the following catalogue entry: http://www.nls.uk/catalogues/resources/sbti/seller_small.html Simpson, Robert, printer Edinburgh Simpson's Land, Broughton 1799 - 1803 Edin dir
Hello: Recently noted that both my great grandmother and her older brother, Mary Park and Alexander Aitken, were born in 1858 and 1857 on Simpson's Land, Hillhousefield, North Leith. Assume this was an area within Hillhousefield but just wondered if anyone else has come across that reference or knew where Simpson's Land was in Hillhousefield. Many Thanks. Bill in Montana

John LOCKIE shows 1881 age 78 years, born Stow, & living Haddington , his wife was Janet. He may be the same John showed as a Carter in 1861 , born Selkirkshire . To save me buying , or, before I buy , the Death Certificate, does he show in the Tree of anyone out there ? I am wondering if he is a brother of Helen LOCKIE , daughter of Thomas LOCKIE a Teacher, & Janet Clark. Mary

Thanks to those who responded. Some new leads. Still hoping to find more detail about the type of vessel and perhaps a photograph of this or a similar vessel. Melvyn.
Hi If you add the name of your ancestor as well as the other details into Google it will likely give more meaningful results for you. eg "stormy petrel 1881 stevenson". Dear Listers, I have three Stevenson ancestors who were variously recorded as fishermen and river pilots. They are also recorded as all drowning on Black Friday, having got caught up in the storm of 14 October 1881 off Dunbar, being aboard the vessel Stormy Petrel. Is there anywhere that might record whether this vessel belonged to the family and what sort of vessel it would have been? Also, were they river pilots simply because of their knowledge of the local waters or would they have been employed and/or paid for this? TIA Melvyn.
Melvyn, If you Google "stormy petrel Dunbar Scotland October 1881" you will get 1730 hits, granted not all about your family. http://tinyurl.com/y9mq2ax The first entry is reference your David Stevenson and his two sons. http://www.edinphoto.org.uk/0_a/0_around_edinburgh_-_firth_of_forth_-_remembrance.htm Google is always the first place to look for data on just about anything.............................never know what will pop ut.
