    1. [MIDLOTHIAN] Baptisms
    2. John & Yvonne McDonald
    3. I have twin brothers, based on the information from Scotland's People had their baptism recorded in two different churches, on the same day and wondered how this could happen. Hugh and Myles MALONE where baptized at St. Patrick's Church on 13/2/1858, where also baptized in St. Mary's Church on the same date. Also when children where being sponsored for baptism, would the could the sponsors be of the same sex or are they the same as Godparents. Thank you in advance, John Pitt Meadows, BC, Canada

    3. Hello Christine I had a look on the 1871 Scottish census on Ancestry and found a John DONACHY (sic) aged 3, born Shotts, Lanarkshire, living with his father Alexander DONACHY aged 42, born Ireland and a furnace labourer. There was no sign of a wife but there were 3 other children: Catherine aged 11 born Bothwell, Lanarks; Andrew 9, born Shotts, Lanarks; and Eliza, 7. born Shotts. Assuming that John's mother had died between his birth and the 1871 Census, I had a look on Scotlands People for deaths of a Catherine DONACHIE between 1868 and 1871. And found: Catherine DONACHIE, 31, married to Alexander DONACHIE, labourer, died 19 August 1969 at Shotts Iron Works, Shotts. She was the daughter of John GILLIGAN, labourer, deceased, and W?innie MACAULEY. Catherine died as a result of heart disease. This sounds to me like your Alexander and Catherine - and your John. The birth of an Andrew DONOCHIE (sic) was registered in Shotts in 1862; of Elizabeth DONOCHIE (sic) in Calderhead, Lanarkshire in 1864. And of a John DONOCHIE in Calderhead, Lanarkshire in 1867 (not 1869). I looked at the image of this birth and he was the son of Alexander DONOCHIE and Catherine GILLIGAN who were married at Shotts Ironworks on February 23 1855 (according to birth certificate). John was born on 6 August 1867 at Shotts Ironworks, I will send you the two images off-list. 3. Hello Christine There is also a submitted entry for Eliza's birth. Coincidentally there is also an extracted entry for the same date. She was born on 7th September 1869 in Dunfermline, Fife to John SINCLAIR and Ann BEATTIE. You would need to check it out that this is the correct couple. They also had another 10 children listed on Family Search for the same couple. 3. Hello Christine How can you be sure that he was born in 1869 and in Musselburgh? Is it based on information from a census or from some other document? Is it possible that he was born before the couple married? If so, his birth may have been registered under the name John Gallaghan or perhaps Callaghan or Callachan. 2. There is a family tree on ancestry.com for this family. Although they are notorious for misinformation, this one does refer to the 1891 and 1901 censuses which say he was born in Shotts, Lanarkshire. But I couldn't find him on the IGI there, either. 3. I would suggest your subscribing to the Yahoo County Down list. They are great and will be able to head you in the right direction. Try this link http://www.igp-web.com/down/index.htm There will be a little purple square where you can join the Yahoo Group. Many members still live in Co. Down. Without their help I would still be searching for my ggg grandmother's name.
