    2. Bev & Keith Dey
    3. Hello List, I am researching my 3xgt/gr/mother Catherine SMITH, born Whitburn to Alexander SMITH and Agnes MUIR. I have found two marriages that could be her parents, Cramond 30 November 1798 and Stow 8th December 1798. The children at Whitburn are James 1810,Elizabeth1812,Catherine 1813 and Christian 1816. I presume there must have been more children born between 1798 and 1810, does anyone have an idea how to find them. Regards, Bev.

    3. Hello Hugh, Yes, you've got my family in mind! In fact, when I travel to Uphall this coming February, we will be staying with Ainslie! You are correct, her brother James and your first friend, died very young (he was the Abbot of Paisley). His son Gordon Ross will be meeting us in Uphall with his family for a small reunion. James' other son, Alan, married and has a language school in Germany. Joyce Pinkerton Ross Hall now lives in the south. I will contact you off-list, I am delighted that you know of my family. 1. Re: [MLN] 1881 UK Census Disk
    2. Bruce McArthur
    3. Hi Stephanie The 1881 UK Census on CD is definitely still available directly from the LDS Web-site http://www.ldscatalog.com/ , look under Family History/ Software & Databases, then, on the next page, Censuses. It costs $25.50 plus postage. If you don't live in the US then it can be expensive to buy this way because of the postage charges. However you can order it by phone from your local LDS distribution centre which you can find here http://www.ldscatalog.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/lds/WorldWide.jsp?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&langId=-1http://www.ldscatalog.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/lds/WorldWide.jsp?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&langId=-1. If this link doesn't work then just search using Google for LDS Worldwide Distribution Centres and you will find this page as the first choice. The census comes as a complete set and you have to buy all of it, not just the Scottish part. Alternatively you can find copies of it being offered on Ebay all the time which will be a lot cheaper. Sometimes people split the pack of CDs up and you may be able to pick up just the Scottish disks (of which there are two) for a few pounds but you will need to buy the viewer program to make them work. Hope this helps Bruce McArthur

    2. Hugh Shields
    3. Hi Allison, I was born in Uphall and in my early childhood our family was neighbours to a James Ross. His wife`s name was Grace Darling Ross. They had one son James and a daughter Ainslie. The "Darling" name is not at all that comon in the Uphall area so it looks promissing. The son, James, became a C.of S. minister and married Joyce Pinkerton, the daughter of Rev. Pinkerton of Ecclesmachan and Ainslie became a teacher. I don`t think Ainslie ever married. The son James was I believe my first friend, probably from age of five years into early teens. He died very early in life, in his forties I believe. There were only two Ross families in Uphall at that time, the other being Alexander Ross who had a licensed grocery. Contact me if you feel there is a connection here. > > 3. 3. Hello All, This is my first post to this list - I'm very happy to find this resource! I am searching for infromation for my 3grandparents James ROSS and Mary GARDEN ROSS and also John McINALLY and Catherine MUIRHEAD McINALLY. 1. My 2 grandfather Daniel ROSS b. 21 Aug 1858, Bathgate, Linlithgow. Son of James ROSS (Coal Miner) and Mary GARDEN ROSS. I have not had much success with finding information about James Ross and Mary Garden Ross. Daniel ROSS (Shale Miner) married Mary McINALLY (or McNALLY) 4 June 1886 in Broxburn. 2. Mary McINALLY born circa 1867 or 1868, ? location, daughter of John McINALLY and Catherine MUIRHEAD McINALLY; was also of Broxburn at the time of marriage. Stiking out on the McInally and Muirhead side, 3. If this helps, what I do know is that Daniel and Mary (McInally) ROSS resided at 74 Salisbury Place, Uphall, West Lothian and had 8 children: James ROSS born circa 1888 Abercorn???, West Lothian (can't read 1901 census) m. Euphemia Darling John ROSS born circa 1890 Abercorn?? , West Lothian Daniel ROSS born circa 1893, West Calder, Midlothian (I believe this son died in WWI) Peter ROSS born circa 1895, West Calder, Midlothian married Isabel Scott Robert ROSS born circa 1898, West Calder, Midlothian Alexander ROSS born 17 September 1900, Uphall, West Lothian (this is my grandfather) married Margaret McGilvray Dick (Morrison) Catherine ROSS born ? marrried James Crawford resided Glasgow area Mary ROSS born ? married Robert Smart, resided Edinburgh Thanks in advance for any help you can offer, Allison Vidal Tampa, FL
