    3. Hello Gretchen I have the following for a George Baptie. Whether he's your bloke or not, cannot say. Am related to the Archibald and Laing line. George Baptie b 20 April 1860 in Newton parish, MLN, to Elizabeth Laing and Alexander Baptie. (Elizabeth's first husband was Robert Archibald). In 1861 the family was in Millerhill, Newton parish, where Alexander was an Engine Driver. (Railway and/ or Coalmine) Alexander Baptie died before the 1881 census. In 1881 George was 20 yrs old, a general labourer and living with his twice widowed mother and older brother William. Newton parish is next to Dalkeith parish.     2. Evening Listers, Well the marriage cert that arrived today is certainly keeping me busy - now begging for more help! William McMillan married Ann Kay (IGI ref) 7th May 1792 in Dalkeith. One of their children - Harriet (b1803) was my gggg-grandmother. Anyway..... I would be most appreciative if someone could find this couple on the 1841 and 1851 census if at all poss. I've looked on freecen and this showed nothing. Also, if anybody has any further info on this couple to help trace their ancestry I would be eternally grateful. Jennifer Devon UK

    2. Dear Jennifer, If you are interested, there are Dalgliesh's that settled in northern Ontario, Canada about 1878. A Robert Dalgliesh, his wife Christine Wiseman and five children and his younger sister Christine Dalgliesh settled in the township of McMurrich in 1878. The Dalgliesh family were Scots and had originally immigrated to Quebec, Canada about 1845. If you are interested in this line, I can give you information to help you find more on them.
