But the Occupier may also be the Tenant or even the Proprietor. Or relatives or friends of those two. I have at times seen identical names in the 2nd and 3rd column. I'd never heard of this term in the U.S. No surprise! I installed a programme into my PC at the weekend and the CONFIG preferences wanted me to choose either U.S. ENGLISH or INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH. Where did we go wrong? I was taught ENGLISH ENGLISH. Cheers, ALISTAIR

    3. I guess this is the time of year to reminisce, must be all this snow that is falling at present and slowing down the greening of the GC. Montreal, lived there for one year while cross training and language training before jumping over the pond.. Great city, one of the few where one goes out at 11.00 PM for the evening, commencing with a late supper on Bishop Street or in that area, then club hopping (if you are inclined) always taking the Metro. A city with wonderful places to eat, so many cultures, places to visit. A few miles up the Autoroute to great skiing. Do it all again if the chance came along. 3. Mike: The only place worth visiting is the Mid-Atlantic states Pa., Md. & Delaware where all the Scots and the Germans immigrated to. We are vastly assimilated as the the scots men loved those blonde german girls and had "litters" with them. If you are so engrossed on Indian trails we have one called the Apalachin Trail, you cane walk from Maine to Florida on it, left your scarf home it gets windy on the tops of the mountains. 2. Mike Morris
    3. The nicest route I have travelled in the northern USA was through the New England area from Plattsburgh to the east coast and Portland it was route #302. Another from above Boston travelling east was 'The Mohawk Trail' (I think this is the correct Indian name for this route). As for roller blades, my long white silk scarf would keep tripping me up. <grin> Mike ----- Original Message ----- From: "gordon crooks" <glcrooks@bcpl.net> To: <MIDLOTHIAN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 22, 2005 12:54 PM Subject: Re: [MLN] The Close's of Quebec > Actually your mode of transportation is lacking, you could go on roller > blades and still use your goggles!! > > Gordon > P S Actually you know you could take the old roads and even enjoy the ride. > I recently went to a LDS conference for genealogy in Pennsylvania and for > most of the way I was on what is called the old Road to the west, there are > lots of old houses, barns, and even old log cabins, its a picturesque drive.<snip> -- No virus found in this outgoing message. 3. Actually your mode of transportation is lacking, you could go on roller blades and still use your goggles!! Gordon P S Actually you know you could take the old roads and even enjoy the ride. I recently went to a LDS conference for genealogy in Pennsylvania and for most of the way I was on what is called the old Road to the west, there are lots of old houses, barns, and even old log cabins, its a picturesque drive. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Morris" <morrisind@rogers.com> To: <MIDLOTHIAN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 22, 2005 10:40 AM Subject: Re: [MLN] The Close's of Quebec > Hi Bob, > It takes me 6 hours or more just to drive to Montreal. 1. RE: [MLN] MY ATHELSTANEFORD NAMES
    2. Elizabeth Dods
    3. Hello Michael in Norway from Ontario, Canada, This is a bit of a fishing expedition, but thought I would give it a try. I have a Dods line which peters out around 1717. I know of no direct connection to Athelstaneford, but the family seemed to have moved between Berwickshire and Roxburghshire, short distances even for those times. Here is what I have: Andrew Dods b~1681 (loc?) m Grissel Forest (2 children Alexander b1714 & Andrew b1717) This is an IGI finding and not confirmed. Andrew Dods b1717 Eccles, BWK m Christian Haig (5 male children listed IGI, Ist two born Merton Church ~4 miles from Earlston) Andrew Dods b1746 Roxburgh, ROX m Margaret Stevenson (8 children born Earlston/Nenthorn, BWK) William Dods b1781 Earlston, BWK emigrated to Canada in 1824 with wife (Elizabeth Shillinglaw) and (5 of 8?) children. Let me know if there is any possible connection. 3. Hi Bob, It takes me 6 hours or more just to drive to Montreal. The pedal car is hard on the legs. :)) I can get to Boston from Toronto in 10 hours and that's allowing for stops so I can clean the flies off my goggles. 3. Sounds like New Orleans! Used to be a fun place to visit but now... The French Quarter is still fun, but stay in the centre/center and be in your hotel before dark. Years ago, our vet was murdered there, robbers attacked his wife and he was shot when he tried to intervene. There are places in our town, Biloxi, MS, where it's not good to be in after dark. I grew up in the 1950's in Kent, at Margate, where the only murder this century, in the 1930's, was still talked about. Times have changed! Sorry about that, you are quite correct. I meant to say Newington, but somehow managed to think Liberton, probably because I was there on Saturday. Duncan, Dundee

    3. I was born and brought up in Myrtle Terrace - the one just beside Primrose Terrace, and I never heard the name Gorgie Mains! It is good to learn something new about Edinburgh. However - I must correct you on the location of Liberton - it is far away from Gorgie. Liberton is over to the south side of the city - Gorgie is on the west side.
