With luck we can connect. Hi Eric, I would suggest you join Genes Reunited. I'd been searching all over Australia for an un-named 2C for over 5y. Four days after joining and first contacting a 'possible', it was confirmed we had a definate match with their father who originally went to Au in 1924. This gave me 6 living 2C; with children/grandchildren, 50 'new' relatives. Since then, I've found well over 20 others, including a half-1C, and a full 1C, though mostly 2C to 3C - all in Scotland and England, excepting the Australians. Can't praise this site enough from my own experiences. I figure I got more than my money's worth within the first 4 days! Toni ~ Ontario

When you download a page from the OPRs it will invariably contain not just the record you wanted, but a few other records as well. I thought it would be a good idea to transcribe these rather just leaving them to moulder in my computer files, and actually began transcribing my OPRs for the Angus list quite some while back (most of my ancestors were from Angus and Perthshire). However, I also have ancestors from Midlothian, the main names being URQUHART, ROBERTSON and KERR (from Dalkeith and South Leith). I am searching for any info regarding my ggg grandparents: Edmund CORNER b. 29 November 1807 married Teresa BYRNE 14 August 1828 and died 11 January 1839. Children: Anne b. 6.05.1830 d before 1836 Edward Craig b. 15.10.1832 d in Australia Drummond b. 4.11.1836 d 3.04.1837 unknown daughter b 25.12.1837. Edmund was employed with a printing press for nearly 16 years in Edinburgh. His address was 13 Morrison Street. He was stationed at St Andrews, Grove, Jamaica as a missionary. After Edmund's death Teresa returned to England and took in the younger boys attending Re A Phillip's boarding school in the Isle of Man in return for which Edward was accepted as a day-scholar. I have confirmed Edward was a student at King William College. Most of this information has come from papers held at the University of Birmingham, Special Collections at Edgbaston. Due to the high cost of purchasing the microfilm a very kind lady has given me this information direct from the diaries. I am looking for information on Edmund's parents. His mother remarried as there are letters to his mother enquiring on his stepfather's health. I cannot find any records for births or deaths of the other children only Edward. I have purchased his christening record and funnily enough he was christened Edward Craig Corner by the Reverend Edward Craig, Minister of St James Episcopal Chapel Broughton Place. Any help would be most appreciated as it took me 2 years to find Edmund and hopefully it won't take as long to find his parents. Hi all, I am new to the list. Hoping you might be able to help me locate my gggrandmother, Janet Turner, on Edinburgh birth records? According to informant of her death certificate Janet was born 1824 in Edinburgh. She left Scotland 1848 as assisted immigrant to NSW, Australia, aboard "Fairlie". The ship's indent states she was 24, a dairymaid from Inverkeithing, protestant, could read but not write, single, gave birth to a son on voyage. Her parents were "living in Glasgow." So it is a bit confusing about just where she was born. She seems to have connections with Glasgow, Stirlingshire, Edinburgh, Inverkeithing, from what I can gather. Any ideas about where her birth record might be, or census details 1841, any records at all of her in Edinburgh or elsewhere in Scotland? Kind regards, Susan NSW Australia.
hi Susan, FreeCEN provides a free search of the census. The Edinburgh 1841 isn't complete yet and the Edinburgh born Janets that are showing are a wee thing young. http://www.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl However the family could have been living elsewhere by then, Glasgow for instance, so i tried Lanarkshire. Glasgow itself is so big it'll be a while before it becomes searchable unless using SP. your Janet will most likely be listed as aged 15yrs as those over 15 had their ages rounded down to the nearest 5 or 10th year of age in the 1841. some enumerators did give the correct age, but not many. you didn't give the parents names, but here are a few possibilities i found, though some are a bit on the young side: ['OUC' = Outside Census County (1841) means the individual was not born in that county. Unfortunately the 1841 didn't offer an alternative] Piece: SCT1841/685; Place: St Cuthbert's-Midlothian; Enumeration District: 85; Civil Parish: St Cuthberts; Ecclesiastical Parish: St Cuthberts; Folio: 85; Page: 11; Address: 166 Fountainbridge; name Sex Age Occupation Where Born TURNER Alexr M 55 Jrnymn Shoemaker OUC TURNER Elizabeth F 45 OUC TURNER Janet F 12 Midlothian TURNER Elizabeth F 9 Midlothian TURNER Alexr M 6 Midlothian Piece: SCT1841/685; Place: St Cuthbert's -Midlothian; Enumeration District: 48; Civil Parish: St Cuthberts Ecclesiastical Parish; Folio: 154 Page: 1; Address: Trafalgar Lane name Sex Age Occ. The family were on a farm there for 2-3 decades but after Matilda married Wm AIRD she obviously went to his county. He possibly went under the AIRD in later census. I am wondering if someone would be good enough to look up William & Matilda AIRD. I have them at Bothwell Lanark in 1871. They still appear to be in Lanark in 1891 and 1901 although I have only referenced them on Scotlandspeople, not paid for a sighting. There are numerous William Airds but my one is spouse of Matilda. I have children named Allice, Matilda & Thomas AIRD although Matilda was married to a Thomas NIVEN earlier and had children Agnes b 1847,William b 1848 & Thomas b 1851 to that relationship. It is possible that these children go by the name of AIRD in subsequent census. Thank you in anticipation Margaret Christchurch, NZ
