They immmigrated to Australia in 1859. Another brother Alexander born 1819 also immigrated to Australia in 1852. 3. Gretchen, I think I may have found a record for your Baptie family. On the birth record from Scotlandspeople for Catherine Laing, 1860 the next name on the sheet is a Robert Baptie, April 6, 1863, parents, Charles Baptie, Jane Douglas, married May 15, 1846 or 48 hard to read. There seem to be many generations of LAING's in Newton on the IGI just looking at one batch number as one of the lister's suggested. g **************Ideas to please picky eaters. 3. At one point I thought we should start discussing off list, but then we wouldn't have had so many Laings join in. Toni was a great help with the cousin line-up and was great to be interested in our discussions. That is how we learn here. For a long time, I sat in the background picking up tips and learning. I don't think I would be as far today if I hadn't jumped in and asked questions and had so many people offer advices. Still working on all the bits and pieces in the tree. I can't wait until March 3 when the one I think will help pull it all together gets back from vacation. We have to be patient until then. 3. I suggest that you check the batch number and see what is in it (I think you can do this by clicking on the batch number and then doing a search with no first and last name). If there are a lot of records in the same parish of unrelated people, then the submitter may not have been searching that family in particular. Quite a few patron-submitted records seem to be cases where an eager church member has individually decided to submit records found in a parish register, probably before that register had been indexed on the IGI.
