    3. My g grandmother Annie Jane HEATH was described in family papers as being a traveller. I am aware that one meaning for this would be a travelling salesperson but I would have thought this would more likely refer to a man. She was born in 1848 in Lambeth and died I think in 1902. She married into a Jewish Family called JACOBS.. Could this indicate perhaps that traveller referred to a Gypsy, or did women have jobs at this time that would mean she travelled during the course of the job. Unfortunately I don’t have any family members alive that could shed light on this mystery. In the 1861 census she is described as a general servant and in 1901 as cook, not domestic. There is no date on the information to act as reference cheers Sheila

    3. Hi, Probably not a true Gypsy - They are a specific ethnic group of people - Romani or ? - go well back in history. in many countries. Sometimes people who do not settle in one place may be referred to as living like a gypsy - but will not be true Gypsy. If doing family history - best not to delegate the term to your Ggrandmother. - without correct documentation. If her Parents were not Gypsy - she would probably not be - unless her husband and family were.
