I previously had the same problem with respect to Ancestry where I knew my ancestor lived at an address in 1851 but did not appear on the 1851 census on Ancestry. In my case I ended up going to the LDS history centre and ordering the original films for the area and I found that the whole street had been eliminated from the transctription to electronic format. I would try an alternative census database like FMP (the two data bases are different, and from memory FMP does allow you to search for streets) and if not found, then look to the original films Silly question though, you have confirmed that the street name she quoted didnt change, sometimes when names change, people keep using the old name for long after. Have you also googled the street name to ensure that it did exist. Thank you very much for replying. Another person sent me the exact location on the census but she was not living there at the time of the census which is frustrating. As I can't find her on the 71, 81 or the 91 census I will try your suggestions and make a trip to the LDS. I don't know what you mean by FMP so could you clarify please. Poorer families seem to have moved around a lot from one lodging to another and it is difficult to find them sometimes. When my family returned from abroad in 1863 after John Johnston was discharged from the army, his army records said they were going to live in St. Lukes but that is not where Mary was in 1886 so makes it more complicated. But thank you for your help and I will keep looking. I've been looking for 7 years now so am running out of ideas.
