Any of the major Probate registries round the UK have listings. But unless you live right next to one of these, it is simpler to apply to the Leeds Registry (which handles all postal enquiries for England and Wales). Even at the recently enhanced price of £10 per will (whatever size) this is likely to be a cheaper alternative. State full name of testator, last known address (even district helps) - if you are after a John Smith, it is obviously helpful to add identifiers like wife/sons' names. If the name is common it is useful to check BMD indexes (Readily available to 2006) and select 5the likely location of death by collating with age. (date of birth is given in later indexes).
