    1. [MDX] WWII medals

    3. I have just received a message from my cousin who's been going through our great uncle's WWII service record. It included a document "which appeared to indicate that he was entitled to some award/medal for his naval service in the Atlantic 1942/43 and Burma in 1945.". Neither my cousin nor I have seen these medals, so cannot describe any ribbons. It may be our great uncle never applied for them. If he didn't, I'm not sure we'd be able to now. The Burma Star we know about but the 1942/43 Atlantic one has us puzzled. Can anyone help please? -- Connie http://oursalmons.wordpress.com/

    3. This is interesting as I've just found from Ancestry.com that my cousin Herbert Portland Dunlop Smith was awarded a medal of some kind for his service in the Merchant Navy during the war. The link from Ancestry only takes me to a record at the National Archives, so it looks as if I won't be finding out what the medal was. Since he's not a direct ancestor I haven't really got £3.50 to order the record.
