Thankyou to everyone that replied to me regarding the occupation of Inspector of Nuisances. I had an idea that it meant someone who dealt with public nuisances such as inspecting insanitary conditions, dirty conditions, noise & pest control and all the rest but wanted to be sure. I couldn't think what a modern day title for such an inspector would be but A Public Health Inspector sounds exactly what title I was looking for. Thanks to all who replied to me. Regards Jenny DeAngelis.
My ggg grandfather - John Young Jameson (1790 - 1845) is listed in 1841 census as on part Army pension. From 1821 until his death I have found him listed in Land Tax Records, Death Certificate, Cemetery Records and Will in residence at 9 Allsop Terrace Marylebone. His Will lists him as Gentleman. I have found in London Post Office Directory under Royal Chelsea Hospital an entry for John Young Jameson, 'Junior, first class, Clerk. The entry above that is for the Agent & Paymaster for the Out-Pensioners, it lists Clerks in order from Chief to Junior second class. I have checked census for 1851 for other clerks listed with John and could find only one who in 1851 listed his occupation as Civil Servant Army Records, his age was slightly younger than John. As I have not found anyone else with the same name I am wondering if some one of the age of about 50 would be employed as such. Thanks for any advice. Rose
