Uncle Harry Edmed died from Meningitis at Myrtle Cottage, Hospital > Road, Potters Bar, > > South Mimms on 14 May 1905. He was only 9 poor little mite. I have the Death > Cert. but would like to know if there were any obituaries for him. It isn't exactly likely that a small child dying of natural causes would have an 'obituary' as such. The parents may have put in a simple death notice, which is a different matter, but as these cost money, not many families did then. The content would only be what you know (or even less than that, the simple name) For general information, a proper obituary. where actual details of a person's background and life details are included, will normally only appear in a newspaper if that person was a locally prominent resdident - gent, shop-keeper, manufacturer, possibly a local councillor, or someone who had achieved eminence as a writer, painter, musician, athlete (latterly) The quick check is to access the Britishnewspaperarchive - there is a free on line synopsis, which gives the gist of the article (not just a bare name) and indicates both the issue and page number but also shows a blue'thumbnail;' indicating the size of the article concerned and its position on the page. You can then -if it looks to be more than the single line given in the synopsis, buy a print out of the actual article (or if you hasve access locally, go to see the paper). It is worth putting 'edmed' into the search box, just to see if the family were locally prominent. This will sometime give you interesting sidelights - did they ride bicyles without lights, allow cattle to stray, play cricket, win prizes at flower shows? All part of the rich tapestry of ancestral life. . > > > > > > Cheers & thanks > > > > Marcelle > > Western Australia > > > > > > > > . > ************************************** > Send your List messages using *PLAIN TEXT* and always *DELETE* all previous messages EXCEPT the one to which you are replying. > > *MEANINGFUL Subject Lines* ie name or topic, date and place with surnames only in CAPS. > > List Admin can be contacted at: Middlesex_County_UK-admin@rootsweb.com > > The List Archive, containing all messages posted, can be found at: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index?list=middlesex_county_uk > > . > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to MIDDLESEX_COUNTY_UK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message Author of The McLaughlin Guides for Family Historians Secretary, Bucks Genealogical Society
