My grandfather was Inspector of Nuisances in Sydney. His job included excessive noise and rubbish collection as well as being a rat catcher. He died in 1905 so I'm sure this job would have another name now, maybe Health Inspector? I imagine things like noisy and unruly neighbours might come into this title, as it might today, but what else would it include? Can anyone help at all Regards Jenny DeAngelis . ************************************** Send your List messages using *PLAIN TEXT* and always *DELETE* all previous messages EXCEPT the one to which you are replying. *MEANINGFUL Subject Lines* ie name or topic, date and place with surnames only in CAPS. However, they seem to consider it beneath their dignity. Or they bring one IN from the garden and let it run, after plonking it down and expecting a reward sachet. In his youth, Nelson (senior cat) was hot stuff on squirrels, pigeons, and even pheasants (depite being shooed off the last). Now it is too much effort. > Noise Abatement Officer Environmental Health officer EVE -- Author of The McLaughlin Guides for Family Historians Secretary, Bucks Genealogical Society
