Hi Les Unfortunately there are no records at this date - see this quote from the National Archives in the UK - "Formal adoption, as we now know it, did not exist in England and Wales until 1927. Before then, adoptions were usually informal. In a few cases there was some legal documentation, but no central register." I have no adoptions in my research but maybe others can recommend avenues for you to go down. May not be impossible but I wouldn't get your hopes up too high.
