    3. First, thank you for this information. I will have to "try" and see if i can get access in some way. I do not belong to Ancestry , altho I did back in the 1990's...I signed up then for a brief period of time, and when time was close to ending I told them I no longer wanted to belong as I got NO info at all as to any members of my family. I had a continuous battle with them for almost 6 mnths to UNsubscribe, and get a refund for charges when I had told them I was quitting and they extended anyway. I had also bought the CD of Family History at the time which they claimed if not satisfied to return for credit/ money back. Since I had no luck and found no one related I returned the stuff and asked for my credit back! To this day nothing returned. I do not trust Ancestry, and I do NOT do any more financial transactions or give my credit card #s to anyone, or checking acc't.!!! I would send a cashier check if there was a actual business address to a company thru snail mail, but most ancestral sites only want the info by electronic transfer, thru credit co. or bank. Once burned -twice shy!!! especially with so much fraud going on today and stolen ID. I would prefer dealing with someone who does belong, who would copy and send the info and pay them for the time and expense of snail mail. My Patrick Carmody was born approx. 1840-50 in Kilbrin, Co. Cork. was in Middlesex from about 1870's to his death. Married to a Nora Healy, had 11 children by 1911, they lived in Uxbridge, Brentford, north Hyde, Heston areas between 1890's and when they died. I have no info as to Marley bone. There are quite a few Patrick Carmody's on file, including a great uncle b. 1858-d.1937 as a single man. Since he never married and all other lines of direct family exhausted I thought I would try the nephew/cousin, but I see no connection to the one you mention. Thank you again for trying. In the UK access is via a library card either in the library or at home depending on the licence. In library access generally comes with possibility to download the images to your own flash drive. If you don't have one you can buy one from them. Obvously things may be a bit different for you in America. There were problems with access via the LDS but I think that's been sorted out now. If so, your local LDS FHC might be an option. > I do not belong to Ancestry , altho I did back in the 1990's [...] > I had a continuous battle with them for almost 6 mnths to > UNsubscribe, and get a refund for charges when I had told them I > was quitting and they extended anyway. That was a significat problem until fairly recently but Ancestry have now got their act together and there are rarely any problems now. If there are, it's usually because the would be former subscriber has not followed the instructions to unsubscribe correctly. No doubt someone (or two) will post now to say they DID follow the instructions and DID have problems. That being so, it isn't usually a problem. I take out a monthly sub to Ancestry periodically > I do not trust Ancestry, and I do NOT do any more financial > transactions or give my credit card #s to anyone, or checking > acc't.!!! Both your bank and credit card provider should be awake to your purchasing patterns and alert to possible anomalies as my bank was when someone randomly chose my card number to try to make a purchase. My bank blocked the transaction, suspended my card and re-issued it. No matter how careful you are, there is no way to stop someone randomly using your card details to make a purchase. I still had my card with me but someone with a number close to mine had had theirs stolen. > I would send a cashier check if there was a actual business > address to a company thru snail mail, but most ancestral sites only > want the info by electronic transfer, thru credit co. or bank. Whilst fraud and ID fraud are indeed a problem and the news is full of incidents, there are considerably more people who do NOT have any problems because they are careful and cautious. When making purhcases online that means making sure the checkout is has HTTPS in the URL and a padlock symbol by the systray and not making purchases if both these are missing. > I would prefer dealing with someone who does belong, who would copy > and send the info and pay them for the time and expense of snail > mail. Ancestry allows a limited amount of sending images to non-subscribed third parties. FindMyPast prohibits ALL looks ups in ALL databases, esp the 1911 census. This is thanks to a handful of people who abused the system and a few who actually offered a look up service (and lost their accounts in the process). The rules were made very clear and FMP (as parent company BrightSolid) does monitor the mailing lists and news groups. Most other sites have a similar restriction, so asking others to help your research is putting their own at risk. Some sites do allow the purchase of vouchers through physical agencies. It could be worth seeing if any shops or organisations in your vicinity do sell vouchers over the counter which you could use. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Greinton and Clutton, SOM Asst OPC for Ashcott and Shapwick, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk http://www.savethegurkhas.co.uk/
