After a number of years of dead ends, I have had a break through with my NICOLLS line (occassionally spelt NICHOLLS). Briefly: Johanna CLARK (daughter of Thomas CLARK and Jane JORDAN) married Charles NICHOLLS (sic) 6th November 1799 at St Margaret’s, Durham, England. Charles was a surgeon. Know issue includes: i. Jonathan christened 25th September 1800 at St Johns Old Haymarket, Liverpool, Lancashire, England (Nicolls). Alive in June 1822. Trained to be a teacher in 1821, temporary appointment Claybrook 1822 (Nicholls). ii. Thomas Clark born 30th March 1802 at Paddington, London, Middlesex, England. Christened 7th May 1802 at St Mary-St Marylebone Road, Saint Marylebone, London, Middlesex, England. Died October 1846 at High Street, Woowich, Kent, England. Buried 19th October 1846 at St Mary Madgalene, Woolwich, Kent, England. A clerk before he enlisted in the army in 1822 for unlimited service. Held the rank of private in the 10th Hussars and, discharged 1838. In January 1839 a ‘Police Constable’ and lived at Trafalgar Road, Greenwich, Kent, England. Married Ann Futter 28th January 1839 at St Alphege, Greenwich, Kent, England. Ann, the daughter of Isaiah FUTTER (Farmer who lived at Maize Hill). had issue? iii. Charles born 29th February 1804 in England. Christened 21st March 1804 at Old Church, Saint Pancras, London, Middlesex, England (also Pallot’s Baptism Index). Believed to have died young. iv. Joanna born 20th February 1806. Christened 12th March 1806 at Old Church, Saint Pancras, London, Middlesex, England (also Pallot’s Baptism Index). v. Charles born September 1814 at St Pancras, London, Middlesex, England. Christened 2nd October 1814 at Old Church, St Pancras, London, Middlesex, England. Died between 1861 and 1871. In July 1850 lived at Rushy Green, Kent, England and a ‘Police Constable’. In 1851 lived at the Police Station House, Lewisham, Kent, England; ‘Metropolitan Police Constable’. In January 1853 a ‘Police Constable’ and living at Rushy Green, Kent, England. In June 1855 lived at 4 Prospect Place, Summer Mile, Kent England and a ‘Police Constable’. Retired from the Metropolitan Police between 1857 and 1859 (UK Archives). In April 1859 lived at 5 Evelyn Street, New Town, Kent, England and an ‘Ex Policeman’. In 1861 lived at 5 Evelyn Street, Deptford, Kent, England; ‘Night Watchman (Factory)’ (Nicholls). Married Mary _?__. Mary born c. 1821 at St Pancras, London, Middlesex, England. In 1871 lived at 5 Evelyn Street, Deptford, Kent, England; ‘Charwoman’ (Nicolls). In 1881 lived at 53 Ravensbourne Street (?), Deptford, Kent, England; ‘Charwoman’ (Nicholls).
