Hi Anne, Do you feel that this is not my Samuel Ross then? I am unsure about it with the different middle names and the early date. They would have been married a long time before they had children then. It's the only Ross/Godfrey marriage I could find on Ancestry, apart from Samuel & Elizabeth's. It's also in the IGI. It's also very strange that S & E's banns were first published in 1852 at St Mary Lambeth but they didn't marry until 1854 - what church is shown on the marriage certificate ? Possibly Sarah Ann was still alive in 1852 and someone forbade the banns, so they had to wait until she died...and in the meantime, Samuel Walter was born. I can't find any of them under either surname in the 1851 census This could be Samuel's baptism: The Franciscan Register 1814 St Peter's Birmingham Samuel fs Samuelis & Mariae Ross, Aston: pat Maria Bethia Ross nat 31 July 5 Aug I have subs to Ancestry, Findmypast and Thegenealogist - I find that covers just about everything.. The marriage of Samuel and Elizabeth was at the Parish Church St. Giles in the Fields Middlesex 3 June 1854, with witnesses being John Godfrey and W Taylor. the curate was Henry A. Digou ( I think) it is hard to read his writing That could well be my Samuels baptism, but what does the Aston: pat Maria Bethia Ross mean? I presume he was born 31 July and bapt 5 Aug 1814 Nan On 10 July 2010 16:02, Anne Chambers <anne.chambers@bigpond.com> wrote: > It's the only Ross/Godfrey marriage I could find on Ancestry, apart from > Samuel & Elizabeth's.
