Buying from bodies other than the GRO isn't to be recommended, IMO. No matter what they charge, it's always *more* than the fee required by the GRO. They might not be ripping you off, but many do, charging as much as £60 for a cert that only costs £9.25. Also, the GRO can take payment via a secure web site, over the 'phone, or by post. They take credit and debit cards. Not all local Register Offices have the facilities to do the same. Some won't even accept orders for the purposes of family history.
