The original Will of William LAWRENCE, born in 1782 in Old Windsor, Berkshire was made in 1852 and he made no mention in it of two sons, William or Edward, making his eldest daughter Executrix. A Codicil was added in 1855, just before he died, in which he left some property and his gold watch to William if he returned and payed back money which had been advanced to him earlier.. No mention is made of Edward but the codicil mentions that son, George, has recently passed away. The conditions seem unbelievably controlling and involved but I gather William senior was trying to ensure that his wife would be taken care of after his passing.. It would seem that William and his family never returned and we have found the daughter and her family living in a house in Regents Park which was part of the estate through several census returns. I guess the tone of the document helps me accept that the sons may have wanted to be independent although it seems William, at least, was happy to accept financial assistance from his parents.. William junior married in 1845 and a biography published in Chile states that he purchased Schaefers department store in Valparaiso in 1846. Perha! ps Edward, Charlotte and little Edwin made the voyage with his brother and wife. Hoping something else with turn up soon to verify or disprove what we've found. Best wishes, Jan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Anne Chambers" <anne.chambers@bigpond.com> To: <middlesex_county_uk@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, June 26, 2010 11:57 PM Subject: Re: [MDX] Edwin LAWRENCE > There was a baptism for an Edwin in 1840 with father Edward. It's certainly more likely than anything else I've found. A marriage certificate could possibly simply have "Gent" for Edward's father's occupation as do several other certificates I've purchased. The only explanation possible for Edward, Charlotte and Edwin not being found together in any census is surely that they left the country? I do know that the LAWRENCE family in Chile were into wine growing and selling. I will probably order the certificate, though, unless something else turns up in the next few days. >>> >>> Thank so much anyhow, >>> Jan >> >> >> _________________________________________________________________ >> View photos of singles in your area!
