Hmmm! It's certainly more likely than anything else I've found. A marriage certificate could possibly simply have "Gent" for Edward's father's occupation as do several other certificates I've purchased. The only explanation possible for Edward, Charlotte and Edwin not being found together in any census is surely that they left the country? I do know that the LAWRENCE family in Chile were into wine growing and selling. I will probably order the certificate, though, unless something else turns up in the next few days. There could be lots of reasons why they aren't on a census - it's not uncommon - mistranscription, misspelling, missed out...lots of misses ;) Edward's occupation when Edwin was baptised was Postman (I checked again in case it was Potman but it wasn't) which is unconected with the wine business. I just can't see the likelihood of a 15 year old marrying (if that is the case, the licence should say 'with permission of his father' or something like that) and then going with his wife and baby to Chile all in the space of two years. I think this may be Charlotte: Deaths Mar 1851 Lawrence Charlotte Caroline James St West 1 98 Anne Neil & Jan Hearn wrote: > Hmmm! It's certainly more likely than anything else I've found. I'm confused - is it Edwin or Edward > From: neil.hearn3@bigpond.com > To: middlesex_county_uk@rootsweb.com > Date: Sat, 26 Jun 2010 21:12:36 +1000 > Subject: Re: [MDX] Edwin LAWRENCE > > ! There was a baptism for an Edwin in 1840 with father Edward. William had a son Edward b 1824 but he would have been 15 when Edwin was born, so probably not the father of that child. Jan is trying to connect an Edwin b 1840 to William but it doesn't look as if this is the connection.
