Thanks, Anne and Caroline. I'm moving foward with this at last thanks to your help. Yes, I do have the Will but Edward is not mentioned at all which led me to think he must have died young. Now I have found on familysearch the marriage between Edward LAWRENCE, son of William, at St James, Westminster on 10 March 1839 to Charlotte Caroline DOISY. Although Edward would have been only 15-16, I now believe it must be the right family as I can't find any of them in any census. Thanks so much to both of you. Hi Jan I very much doubt that this marriage is "yours" for two reasons: 1) Assuming you have Edward's birth date right, a marriage at 15-16 would be phenomenally unlikely. Marriage at such a young age (for a man) in the early 19th century was very rare generally, and for the son of a gentleman (or even a prosperous man of business) practically unheard of. 2) The 1841 census shows an Edward and Charlotte LAWRENCE in St Pancras with a one year old son Edward. This Edward's baptism in 1840 (just right following an 1839 marriage) gives his mother's full name as Charlotte Caroline, thus making it very probable that these are the pair whose marriage Anne found on FreeBMD. Hope this helps Caroline > Thanks, Anne and Caroline. I'm moving foward with this at last thanks > to your help. That seems a bit of a stretch to me - none are particularly uncommon names. I'd be inclined to get the marriage certificate to see what father William's occupation was - if it's along the lines of victualler, vintner or wine merchant, then you'd know you had the right one.
