She was Samuels first wife and had died by about 1853 - 55, after having two children, Maria in about 1852 St Giles and Samuel Walter in 1853 Clerkenwell I cannot find her death either, but I do have the certificate for his marriage to my G G Grandmother Elizabeth Adelaide Godfrey, Sarah's cousin. In the 1861 census, Samuel aged 46 and Elizabeth aged 30 are living at 3 Bloomsbury St St. Giles Bloomsbury, with Maria aged 9 born London St Andrews Samuel Walter aged 8 born London Clerkenwell, John Eyles ( my G Grandfather) aged 5 born London St Giles Alice aged 1 born London St George the Martyr Samuel was a Fringe and Gaup Weaver. Can anyone explain what a gaup weaver is? I have searched and haven't been able to find any reference for that. What type of weaving was done in London? Samuel Walter and John Eyles Ross came out toMelbourne Australia on the Lucibelle arriving in Dec 1865 They were aged 12 and 10. Hi Rob There was and is a Hertford Street in Mayfair (just off the southern end of Park Lane, behind the Hilton Hotel), but given the place of baptism of Mary Ann, I think it more likely that the Hertford Street in question was the one a mile or so away in St Pancras. It formed the upper end of what is now Whitfield Street, and was only a short distance from Trinity Church. I cannot order any of the books just at the moment -- other bills to pay and a Chemical usage Certificate to upgrade (that crew know how to charge for one day course) I found when the "Dunedin" was built in 1851 in England. There must have been two different "Wellington" ships though as the one they had on the website was built in 1884. I looked very carefully at that to make sure it was not 1834.
