No number given but the previous image was Victoria Road and the one after, Victoria Road; the one after that was "Alpha Cottage Victoria Road - that might help to pinpoint it - they were all 'gardeners' - possibly on a big estate ? 3. Hi Lawrence I will indeed endeavour to get a photo of the tablet - it may be a day or so, though, because it will have to wait until I can go at a more civilised hour than the 7 am that I normally pass by! Fairseat is now the Junior Department of Channing School (an independent school for girls). To "walk" past it, type "N6 2JR" into Google Maps, then proceed uphill a bit towards Highgate Village and it is on your left, right behind a sign directing you to the nearest public toilet! You will find a nice picture of the rear of the house at http://tinyurl.com/37zv2od. Hi again As you have the RG14 , return to the site and look under my records you should be able to view the RG78 for that page FOC There are several documents not just the RG14 schedule that make up the whole picture Example of an RG78 can be seen here http://www.1911census.co.uk/content/default.aspx?r=24&152 There is also an enumeration description page as in other census Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) PS I would not trust their transcripts either > Thank-you Nivard, I had the rg14 but as I had the transcript I just noted > the number of children alive and how many rooms and didn't bother print it > off, I have never heard of the RG78. > > As soon as I get a chance I will have another look at the RG14. > > Thanks again > > Shirley

    3. Fellow listers, I hope SKS will be able to help demolish a brick wall. I have a Laura CUSICK (aged 20) who married a William George SIMKIN (aged 27) at St Johns in Bethnal Green on 28th January 1868. Her father is recorded as being Richard James Cusick, plumber. In the 1871 & 1881 census the couple are resident in Hastings and Laura's place of birth is given as Clerkenwell. So far I have been unable to find any details of her birth (FMP or FreeBMD) or identify the CUSICK family in the 1851 census. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Peter

    3. Anne/Caroline - many thanks to you both.. Anne - the Times obit was great. Will do some more digging as you suggest. And aren't Ancestry just annoying over silly slips like 1827 vice 1826. Caroline - thanks for the pointers on Google Maps. I have subsequently discovered that there is a tablet to the memory of William and Elizabeth Bloxam in St Michaels Church. I wonder if I could indulge your kindness a little further and ask you during one of your daily constitutionals to go in and transcribe it for me - or even better take a photo - and email it/them to me. In addition, William Bloxam is said to have owned the house in Highgate on the site of Fairseat - see http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=65004 (scroll down to Fairseat) - which is said to have still been in the Bloxam family in 1936. 3. Hi Lawrence I think Anne has taken care of a fair bit of the family stuff for you. I walk down South Grove every morning as part of my daily constitutional, and Voel House is still there (and still number 18, though the numbering on South Grove is a little odd). To locate it on Google Street View, search for the postcode N6 6BJ, then drag the little orange man to South Grove and point him going in a south-westerly direction (towards Highgate West Hill). Stroll past the church (St Michael's, founded in 1832) - the house immediately after it, with the red door, is Voel House. Hope this helps Caroline > > > I am looking for help to further my research on a group of families > (partly in my tree) who were related through marriage and property. > > > > The common point for them all is ELIZABETH ISHERWOOD, who married > WILLIAM BLOXAM on 16 Sep 1788 in St Brides, Fleet Street. See if you can get access to the Times Digital Archive through a public library - he was a fairly prolific writer of letters to the Editor. 1. [MDX] Re Cox
    2. Hi I have the 1911 census of my "COX" family living in VICTORIA ROAD STRATFIELD MORTIMER BERKSHIRE. I only have the transcript of the 1911 census, if I had the original census would this have the number of the house they were living at. I hope to go there one day as my Father stayed there for 3 years just after the 1911 Census, it was quite a big house as it had 7 rooms. It would be great if it is still there as then I may be able to pick it up on Street View. Shirley

    1. [MDX] BROMWICH/ISHERWOOD/BLOXAM/CHESTER families - Highgate area - 1750-1870
    2. Lawrence Pearse
    3. I am looking for help to further my research on a group of families (partly in my tree) who were related through marriage and property. The common point for them all is ELIZABETH ISHERWOOD, who married WILLIAM BLOXAM on 16 Sep 1788 in St Brides, Fleet Street. They had a large family, including JANE BLOXAM, born about 1796 who died a spinster in 1876. The will of Elizabeth Bloxam (d 1826) shows her to have had a brother ROBERT ISHERWOOD. Their father was HENRY ISHERWOOD, whose wife probably had the maiden name BROMWICH. Robert Isherwood died on 14 July 1837, but not before he and his (unknown to me) wife had produced a daughter ANNA MARIA ISHERWOOD, born in Highgate 1814-1815. Anna Maria married HARRY CHESTER (born 1806-7 in Ipswich) in September q 1837 and had at least 5 children by him. Harry's occupation is described in the 1841 census as "Privy Council Office Justice of the Peace for Middlesex". The Isherwoods/Bloxams/Chesters all lived at one time or another in a large house in Highgate that was probably built in the 1600s - the details about the property and its owners are described in the following link http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=65013. The house may still exist but I wasn't sure from looking on the street view in Googlemaps. I have some factual details about this cast of characters, but what I would especially welcome is help in finding the following: the wife and parents of Henry Isherwood, and Henry's date of birth and death the date of birth of Elizabeth Isherwood (I do not believe her to be the Elizabeth Isherwood recorded in the IGI as born in 1769) the marriage of Robert Isherwood help in finding out more about Harry Chester in his role as Justice of the Peace for Middlesex; he died in 1868. Thanks in advance Lawrence _________________________________________________________________ http://clk.atdmt.com/UKM/go/197222280/direct/01/ Do you have a story that started on Hotmail? Tell us now

    3. According to at least one UK census return Edward WILSON was born in Fulham in 1813. At his marriage in 1837 he stated that he was a Silk Weaver, living in Church St. He married Ann RUBIN at the Parish Church, Paddington. He stated his father's name was Joseph WILSON, a carpenter. I would really appreciate some advice in determining a possible birth record for him and especially discovering the names of his parents. Many thanks, Jan
