Hi Glenys, I think Anne is right. You may have to order birth certs to verify the parents names. The Walter whose parents were Thomas and Sophia is here in 1901, married to someone who goes by Alice. FreeBMD shows a possible Rosa Agnes Sturgess as a bride for Walter William along with your Georgina Hinchcliff. 1901 Census, RG 13 / 174 11 Crossley St, Islington, Lower Holloway Walter Lockett Head 27 abt 1874, Printer's cutter, London Bloomsbury Alice Lockett Wife 27 abt 1874, , London St Lukes Bessie Lockett dau. 9 abt 1892, , London Bloomsbury Walter Lockett son 2 abt 1899, , London St Pancras Edward Lockett son 1 abt 1900, , London St Pancras Edward Lockett broth 29 abt 1872, Printer's reader, London Bloomsbury On 22/07/2010 12:36 AM, Anne Chambers wrote: > I'm not sure if you do have the right family in 1901 - the ages should be nearly the same, not 5 years > difference, also 'Harry' is a big stretch from 'Walter William'. It is at the left hand side of the page to which I referred you It should show up, but for a photograph, try contacting Islington Local History Centre, Finsbury Library, 245 St. John Street, London EC1V 4NB. Telephone 020 7527 7988. They have a good collection of old photographs, and it is more than likely that they will have one of Beales. I have seen a photograph of the restaurant in 'History of Islington' by Mary Cosh which was published in 2005. JH

Dear Listers, I'm new to the list and hope that someone may be able to help me in finding out more about Gladys, a cousin twice removed. She was the daughter of Charles Henderson and Margaret Wallace(later Hughes) and married a Lyon Wisden in 1907, divorced in 1913 and married Alan Hartree in 1914. Alan was in the Indian Army and died in 1930. Gladys was an actress initially, then (at the time of her return from India in 1946) a nurse, and her death certificate says she was a retired dog breader. Gladys died in Teddington Memorial Hospital in June 1978. Her usual address was given as Laurel Dene, Hampton Hill, Middlesex. The informant was a great neice Gail Veronica Morecombe-White, of 4, Blithfield Street, Kensington. I don't know whether she was descended from one of Gladys' brothers or from her husband's side of the family. I know little of this branch of my Henderson line after 1901, although I have some entries for Alan's career, and for her oldest brother Charles who spent his working life in Malaysia. Any information about Gladys' later career as a dog breeder, anyone who may still remember her, or any leads to this great neice Gail or descendants would be very helpful and welcome. Best wishes, Mary
Hi All I am returning to the list after a long absent, I am not sure if this is the right list but I know if anyone knows it would be the people on this list. I have a photo of my parents taken at Char ladies ball was taken at the venue at Briallies Holloway Road London, it was about 1956/57 I was wondering if anyone may know where this is the name may be spelt differently as I hadn't know where it was taken but am wondering about it Regards Janice
Many thanks to Ruth, Jan Royal, Jan and Coral. I had already read the entry as Dressmaker but wanted to be sure. This fits in with later census when her sisters were dressmakers and milliners. I think I can be reasonably sure that I can claim her as mine. Again my thanks Robyn Fulton Sydney NSW www.rif1945.tribalpages.com
Using ancestry.co.uk I am trying to read the details on the certificate for the marriage of John HUMPHREY and Elizabeth DENN - Southwark, St Giles Camberwell 21 June 1765. I am having problems reading the writing. I wonder if someone could help me. It looks like both have 'widow' against their name. My vote is dressmaker. Definitely something maker, and I think the dr are written together and the first s is the long one like an F. According to Parloc parish locator, the distance between Poplar and Edmonton is only 7.9 miles. Would anyone have connections with the above lady. I am intrigued by her life. Born in 1870 in Lambeth daughter of Charles and Mary Ann she is listed on the 1891 census as Alberta L Demoray Holmes a music hall artiste. She married Horace DeMory in Camberwell in 1891. I have been unable to trace him at all. May be due to transciption. In 1893 there is a marriage for Louisa Alberto to Alfred Rudd. Her sister appears as a witness. In 1901 she is widowed. Then by the 1911 census she is married (4 years) to Horace George Carey. I feel i have the same lady through these years and i wondered if there is a link to trace Music hall artistes. My gut feeling is Horace George Carey and Demory could be the same man. In 1911 she is living with children from her deceased husband Alfred Rudd and children with Horace Carey. Many thanks karen
On Wednesday, October 14th 1931, my great grandmother, Matilda Martha NEWPORT (née NATT) died, in Sussex, where she had been living for some years. She was buried on the following Friday, 16th October, in Hampstead Cemetery (off Fortune Green Lane), in the same grave as her husband, George NEWPORT, who had died, in 1912, and was already buried there. Can anyone suggest, which local paper is the most likely to have had a report (assuming there was one) of her funeral, please, and where Im likely to find a copy? Thanks in advance! John

Thank-you Nivard, I looked at the RG14 on findmypast and they don't seem to save your past lookups like they do on 1911census site. But could see what you mean by my other saved census on 1911. Can anyone help me find more (earlier) information about my 2nd great grandfather Henry ALDRED. I have him in the 1861 census when he is living at 1 Ockendon Road, Islington with his wife and children. He gives his occupation as Professor of Dancing and his birth date as 1824 in Stoke Newington.
