They can be forced to do so, but it requires perseverence and the intervention of the relevant person at the GRO. Anne, I have just had a look at Marilyn's Website, and her fee is now $30 Aust and allowing 28 days delivery. I don't think this was too much different in time than the few I have ordered last year direct. In the early days of my research I purchased my English certificates through Sydney transcription agent, Joy Murrin. She did a wonderful job but I found that ordering directly through the UK govt. site much quicker and quite a bit cheaper....only heard about them after joining this wonderful list. The last one I got from the GRO (about 5 weeks ago) was $15.57 and took two weeks, so it is a bit more expensive than ordering direct. Only put in the information that is given on FreeBMD, nothing more and make sure you check the "yes" box where it asks if you have the GRO reference. Don't worry about putting in an age. The system knows there were no ages given in the indices before 1866. When you get the certificate, don't forget to add the details to FreeBMD as a Postem. You could be helping someone find the right person or find someone researching the same family. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Greinton and Clutton, SOM Asst OPC for Ashcott and Shapwick, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk

My family emigrated from Winscombe Somerset - William and Mary with children. in 1856 bound for Melbourne Australia. If of interest to Beryle, please contact. Robin in WA robin.el@bigpond.com > 4. Re: CONSTANT, ELLIS, BURGESS, FORD (was: family names) (Charani)
Ellen Holmes and John Wilbraham married Dec. 27, 1907. Her father Wm. Holmes, Furniture Remover, her witness: Jane Holmes. Mary Holmes in 1901 census, daughter of Wm. & Ellen Holmes spoke of Jack Wilbraham taking the family to the races in a charabanc. Ellen Wilbraham died October 6, 1971, widow of John Wilbraham a Race Course Official. Ellen's place of birth shown as London on the 19th Jan. 1888. On the 1911 census it shows her birth 1888, Hackney. Also, same address Jane Garrood, spelt wrong, married to Adolphus Garrood, their brother-in-law. Jane Holmes birth cert. shows 4 Feb. 1892, 30 Horatio Street. Registered Bethnal Green. I can find no record of Ellen Holmes in any census prior to 1911, or record of birth in the years 1866 to 1899. She was also called Nell. William and Ellen Holmes, don't show up prior to the 1881 census for marriages or births. I would like to know where the Ellen Holmes, that married John Wilbraham in 1907, was in the years before their marriage and I would like to get her birth certificate. All the ones I have applied for to date have had the wrong parents. Thank you. Bob Ellis, Ontario, Canada.
Jack Thanks for your reply. It is Georgina HINCHCLIFF I am interested in. When finances permit I will send for her marriage certificate and perhaps one for one of the children, to confirm who her correct spouse was, and hopefuly solve part of this puzzle. Glenys (Jack wrote ) .......... I am curious if it is Georgina Hinchcliff you are researching or Walter William Lockett If it is Walter William Lockett you are more interested in I may be able to help as the one born 30 Apr 1873 to Thomas Michael Lockett and Sophia Bewsy was my great uncle. Good Luck, Jack 7. Re: LOCKETT - BDM and census help please- (Jack Beeching)
