    3. Hi Sue There was more than one Stanley Street, and as your ancestor's death was registered in the St George Hanover Square District, the more likely one in this case would probably be the one which is now called Alderney Street - it runs north west from Lupus Street. This street formed part of the development of Pimlico undertaken by the builder Thomas Cubitt in the mid 19th century. Most of the original building are still standing, so you can "walk" the area via Google Street View. Hope this helps Caroline > > Stanley Street W2 is said to now be Winsland Street - see this link > http://www.maps.thehunthouse.com/Streets/Old_to_New_London_Street_Name_ > Changes.htm > > Regards > > Lawrence > > Hi All, My Gt x 3 Grandfather died at 66 Stanley Street St Hanover > Square - > > Could some one tell me what the street is now called please. 3. All I stand corrected - the street known as Alderney street was Stanley Street and was in the district of St George Hanover Square. My apologies. Coincidently, Alderney Street is in the news today due to a grisly finding and Police investigations. 3. Hi Sue If you give a bit more info, we may be able to get closer. I think both the Stanley Street findings so far are too far away from Hanover Square. When was your 3g granfather there? Was he in a census there? The more info you provide, the easier it is to help regards Chris --- On Wed, 25/8/10, Caroline Bradford <caroline.bradford@btinternet.com> wrote: > From: Caroline Bradford <caroline.bradford@btinternet.com> > Subject: Re: [MDX] Help with Street name please. > To: middlesex_county_uk@rootsweb.com > Date: Wednesday, 25 August, 2010, 12:59 > Hi Sue > > There was more than one Stanley Street, and as your > ancestor's death was > registered in the St George Hanover Square District, the > more likely one in > this case would probably be the one which is now called > Alderney Street - it > runs north west from Lupus Street.  This street formed > part of the > development of Pimlico undertaken by the builder Thomas > Cubitt in the mid > 19th century.  Most of the original building are still > standing, so you can > "walk" the area via Google Street View. > > Hope this helps > > Caroline > > > > > > Stanley Street W2 is said to now be Winsland Street - > see this link > > http://www.maps.thehunthouse.com/Streets/Old_to_New_London_Street_Name_ > > Changes.htm > > > > Regards > > > > Lawrence > > > > Hi All, My Gt x 3 Grandfather died at 66 Stanley > Street St Hanover > > Square - > > > Could some one tell me what the street is now > called please. 3. Hi, My grandfather was a mantle cutter listed in early censuses and as he eventually became a master tailor I have associated his earlier profession as being part of making clothes of some description. I believe he cut the patterns for the clothes in his early years. Best wishes Sue

    3. Hi Jan At the time the most likely use of the word would be for a garment >From OED who define it better than I <g> I. A protective garment or blanket, and related fig. uses. 1. a. A loose sleeveless cloak. The word was formerly applied indiscriminately to the outer garments of men, women, and children; at times it referred to various specific pieces of clothing. Its application is now chiefly restricted to long cloaks worn by women and to the robes worn by royal, ecclesiastical, and other dignitaries on ceremonial occasions. You find mantle maker quite often as an occupation I don't see him in 1851 or 1861, have you ? If so what was his occupation then ? The wa is probably for Warehouse Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hello, > I wonder if anyone can tell me what the occupation of my relative > listed in 1856 London PO Directory was please? > Walter Cecil HASKEW; mantle wa. 7 Mid. 3. Hi Nivard & Jon I went back to the first page and searched from there. The third page has handwritten at the top, 'Date of Admission into Workhouse or Infirmary', which is where they start doing this division of dates in one column. So it looks as though the 'first' column is the workhouse admission, and the 'second' is into the infirmary. Individuals seem to have one or the other, but not both dates. So it looks like 3 Aug 1869 was his admission into the infirmary, and admission to the workhouse was on 28 Jul 1869. 1. [MDX] Thomas blincoe - 1869 death - St Marylebone
    2. Jon
    3. Hi listers, I've been trying to trace my blincoe family from Langley Marish in buckinghamshire. Thomas Blincoe was bapt there on Sept 3,1826. I have been unable to trace him in the censuses, but have just found a death on Ancestry's London burial index for a Thomas Blincoe on Sept 1,1869. thomas had a brother William 3 years older than him who died in 1869 back in the Eton reg district, although he was in the Surrey area in 1861. William died in the Eton Union House aged 47. The record on Ancestry for Thomas shows that he died in the Poor Law Union at St Marylebone, although no age is given. I've traced the death index on Free BMD and Thomas age is given as 44, which is fairly close. As I'm blind, I'd really appreciate it if SKS could please have a look at the image for me to see if there happens to be any further info on there. Not that I'm expecting to find any earth shattering news, but it would be nice to know if there was any additional info. Thanks for any help that can be given. Best wishes to all, Jon
