My longstanding brick wall is the parents of John ROLFE, born 1781 or 1783, and his sister Mary Ann ROLFE, born 1785 in Whitechapel. What is the most like church in Whitechapel at that time where I may find their baptisms? Thanks for any help, Maureen in Sydney
Helen, try www.parishregister.com. they have a wonderful search engine for free and buying any results are cheap. They also sell the cd's. I think by 'redeveloped' it means that the original building - a picture of which appears on the website - was demolished. A photo of the current congregation, some of whom appear to be waving their arms in the air, shows them to be in a modern building. JH > Does anybody know if this church still exists? Helen, I took a look on Ancestry.com and found: A baptism for Thomas George Atherton on 15 Jan 1815, son of Thomas Atherton & Joanna Atherton A baptism for an Ann Atherton on 24 Sept. 1820 daughter of Thomas Atherton and Joanna Atherton. Both baptism were at All Saints, Poplar, Tower Hamlets found in the database London, England, Births and Baptisms, 1813-1906 I took a look at the page and it seems that on the same day as Thomas George's baptism there was a lso a Susanna Atherton with the same parents listed. I will send the images to your email. I will look for a marriage record also. Hello fellow listers, I am researching my family history and have come up against a bit of a wall. Would any one be researching the above people? William had been married before but do not know to whom. They had four children by the names of Robert b. about 1885 Lillie/Lillian b. about 1888 James b. about 1890 Ada b. about 1892 After his first wife died William married my great granmother Annie Rolfe (nee Wingfield) a widow in 1897 and then they had a son named Arthur Edward Llewellyn b. 1899 in Edmonton, Middlesex, England. In 1905 Annie, Ada, and Arthur came here to Canada. Toronto and lived at 225 Victoria St. I lost them both after that but found Arthur in 1943 when he stood up for one of my aunts and uncles when they married and again have lost him. I would like to know if any of the other members of this family had been in touch by letter with Arthur and his family. The last I had heard and on the marriage info of the aunt and uncle who got married Arthur was living in Malton, Ontario, Canada in 1943. Would love to get info and pictures. Have info and pics too of the children that Annie Rolfe had before my gr grandfather died in 1891 in England. These would be Arthur's half brothers and sister. Any help is muchly and greatfully appreciated. Sharon
Can anyone tell me if parish records for All Saints, Isleworth are available on-line or if there is a cd of them that can be purchased? The period I am interested in is 1750 - 1850. David
Can anyone please direct me to a source for detailed maps of Isleworth for the period 1780 -1840? The particular area I am interested in is the site now occupied by Nazareth House, Richmond Road, Isleworth TW7 7BP. David
Does anybody know if this church still exists? Several of my MOORE ancestors were christened here, but I cannot figure from its website if the church structure remains as it was in the 1840s. Many thanks. Bill Jones.

I wonder if anyone is able to help me translate an entry on the 1851 census. The reference is HO.107 1702 and the address is 23 High Street Hornsy, Winchester Hall. The item that is causing me trouble is the occupation of William MARRINER, 19, who is listed as the nephew of the head of household (Giles REDMAYNE). The occupation looks to be something like: Exibitioner Sim: Col Ox I believe an Exhibition at Oxford University is a form of scholarship. Is this what its likely to mean or is it something completely different ? Thanks Norman Jessup
I think it's Lin. Col. so probably Lincoln College (Linacre College wasn't founded until 1962) Apparently there were only 12 of them Anne South Australia Norman Jessup wrote: > I wonder if anyone is able to help me translate an entry on the 1851 census. I have seen a record of a David FRANKS of Isleworth, formerly of Philadelphia, whose will was proved in 1794. This may well be the David FRANKS, son of Jacob Franks and Buelah Abigail Levy, who was born at New York in 1720. I have also seen reference to a Mrs Franks who had Vanderheyden House at Isleworth demolished in about 1835. I believe that she may be of the same family. Can anyone tell me anything of this FRANK (FRANCK) family at Isleworth? Thank you. David
H Anne, Thank you very much for your help. It seems as though the James Yates I am looking for was not the one marrying Emily Matilda Dunn. It is possible that mine died young as I have not been able to find any information on him. I did actually have all the other information that you sent. I was just looking for this James Yates Grimwood to fill in the blanks in my family tree as he was an older brother of John Yates Grimwood. I am still looking to find parents for the Sarah Grimwood who had the illegitimate James Yates Grimwood. Thank you for your help. Sue in Suffolk
