WOW! what a lot of info you have sent! And so much clearer than the info I have from their census. I have printed out copies for myself and hopeful one day will find someone related in some way. Dear Pat, I've had a look on Genes Reunited and there are 29 Carmodys there many of them born around the area you are searching in. One is a Patrick CARMODY, born in 1937 in West Drayton. You could save yourself a lot of time and money by contacting the tree owners. Hi Don How annoying, it seems the page has moved during the scanning process. My great grandparents came from West Cork, town unknown but possibly near Kilbrin or Liscarroll areas. I have the names of the great grandparents who because of the famines in 1850's made their way over to England ( Middlesex area) for work. My great grand father, Denis Mulcahy was a agricultural labourer/farmer, according to British census of 1871-1901. At some point in time during the 1880's a cousin/nephew of Denis, made his way over from Kilbrin. He was Patrick Carmody to stay in same area as my great grandparents. Denis and wife, Johanna had 4 children, Patrick, Johanna/Annie, John, and Denis. Only John made it to the USA, became a citizen and joined the US Army, then married a widow, Nora Mulcahy Sullivan, from Kanturk, Cork. I know that the other 3 children stayed in Middlesex area, Patrick was a guard at asylum in W. Drayton, and stayed single, Annie married a John Carter, Denis joined the Metropolitan Police, also stayed single. I have managed to trace thru the Carter family, some info as to family but no one knows exactly where in Cork, the parents Johanna and Denis Carmody came from to be able to trace back any info, in over 40 years of tracking. I am now trying to concentrate on the cousin Patrick Carmody of Kilbrin , he married a Norah Healy about 1887 near Uxbridge, I think. They worked and lived at St. Mary's Orpahange, last known to be a farm hand there . Together, they had 11 children, among them a Michael, Thomas, Hannah, Margaret, Andrew, Ellen, Kate, Norah, and probably a Mary. ( That's all the names I could find). I am hoping to find a descendent of one of the children who might have some family info/lore of the Carmody family. If anyone knows someone by the last name Carmody, please pass this on. I am hoping some kind soul would make a copy of the current telephone directory of Middlesex , and mail me a copy, so I could possibly snail mail the people and see IF they would have any knowledge of these illusive Carmody's from the past. I would gladly pay charges of copy and snail mailing. I am clutching at straws here, I know, but after all the years and money spent I can only try one more time. I live in Florida, USA. I have tried the 192.com site but it would cost a small fortune for site listings to join for the info they have. I could probably fly over and stay a day or so and make copy myself, with the costs of Ancestry, 192.com and others. Thank you for any help you can give. I never got to know my grandparents as they died before I was born. My Father knew little about the family when I finally got to be with him as an adult my having grown up in RC homes.I would love to know some info of the family before I meet them face to face someday (LOL).

Are there any of our Australian friends on this list that can tell me how I can find out if a couple had any Children born to them in Brisbane. A cousin who I thought didn't have any Children apparently had about 6 according to another cousin. George and his wife died in the last ten years, (his wife I believe possibly in the last 5 ) they went to Australia in the 1950s. I have the address where they last lived. Shirley

One has to look at the way the job of local priest happened. It was nothing like modern times - i.e. get the job because of your calling or beliefs. The parish incumbents were often the second or third sons of local lords of the manor. The first son inherited from the father, the second went into the army and the third became a priest. Didn´t matter what he thought, that was what he was expected to do. He could have been t dotally incompetant and disinterested in the job, and the registers will reflect that Diane

I've often come across registers where a parent's name is missing. It's often because whoever made up the registers committed the information to memory which then failed when the register was made up which could be some while after the event depending on how busy the parish was. It could also be that the note made of the event was illegible to the person making up the register later for some reason. See if you can find a child born to the same couple either side of the entry to find out the name of the mother and hope the child wasn't the youngest or that one mother had died and the father remarried in the interim. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Greinton and Clutton, SOM Asst OPC for Ashcott and Shapwick, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk http://www.savethegurkhas.co.uk/
Can you provide the year of this record then perhaps I can assist. I'd also be interested in your research as Baggaley is a variation of my one name study.
