    3. Many thanks Nivard and Ingrid. I will have to visit our local LDS office and make the necessary arrangements. Too bad one of their family did not act as witness. Could have opened up some new avenues. Oh well. Thanks again. Phil in Edmonton - Brrr colder today. 3. This Wednesday; possibly places still available, but you'll need to check if interested. Not free but not expensive. Ann ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 17 Nov 2pm Guidelines & Standards: How to Avoid Mistakes in Genealogy It fits, so it must be right! is an all too common a fallacy adopted by budding tracers of ancestry. It is sadly very common, for those accepting of this precept, later to discover an error which renders months, even years, of intermediate research little more that a waste of time. It must be accepted that little research can be claimed to be one hundred percent accurate. However Peter Bailey sets out methods for the critical evaluation and recording of data used in compilation of a pedigree which minimize the likelihood of error. 3. Hi Martin, and welcome. As brick walls go, this is about as flimsy as it can get. The lad's birth certificate will give you the information you need, though if, as you suspect, he was illegitimate, it won't show his father's name. You have the GRO reference - just make sure you order the cert directly via www.gro.gov.uk, not any of the alternative sources who will charge you more and take longer. If you find the subject of illegitimacy indelicate, then family history may not be the best hobby for you:) I doubt there is anyone on this list who hasn't got at least one ancestor in their tree born on the wrong side of the blanket! Best wishes Caroline > Hello > > I am a new subscriber to this list. 3. Hello I am a new subscriber to this list. I am researching the DORAN family from Middlesex, descending from George William DORAN (born 1860 Kilburn) and Mary Ann Maria LANE (born 1863 Marylebone), for my uncle in Australia. The person in question is shown in the 1911 census for George William DORAN as his grandson aged 7 months born in Marylebone, London. I have traced his emigration to Australia in November 1924 and know of his two marriages there. However I have hit a brick wall in trying to find out who his parents are. The only likely candidate begs the indelicate question as to whether he was born illegitimately to Rose Violet DORAN also listed on the 1911 census, daughter aged 20. Does anyone have any further information about Frank George? My other surname interests are BISHOP (Margate, Kent), HOLDEN (Margate, Kent), WILSON (Halifax, Yorkshire), BIRCHENALL (Stockport, Cheshire) and JACKSON (Salford, Manchester). Best regards Martin Bishop (Chorley, Lancashire)

Unforeseen delays have been experienced in the Phase 1 essential health & safety works currently under way.
