>From London Chronicle ( London, England ), July 5, 1783 - July 8, 1783; Issue 4163. On Sunday afternoon Mr. BODDINGTON , High Constable of Finsbury division, attended by a number of peace-officers of Clerkenwell, St. Luke's, etc., patrolled for some miles on the banks of the New River, to suppress that indecent practise of bathing in the water, which should come to the inhabitants of this metropolis pure, but which has been polluted, by an act which was at the same time a breach of the Sabbath, and an offence to decency. Several persons were taken into custody, but released, on a promise not to repeat their offence.
Thank you David, those maps were wonderful, especially the 1799 one, as it shows the area where my Gt x 3 Grandmother was mugged, a kind neighbour came along and saved her from being raped. The two fellows were caught and went to trial, but we have not been able to find what their sentences were, so far -- they may have hung for the crime. Sarah Camppin was only a girl of 15 or 16 at the time. Sylvia, Unfortunately Berwick Street is missing from the 1841 census. Hi Colleen, Do you know if your Hyland family came from Ireland. There is a Bridget of the right age with her brother Richard working in the cotton mills in Stanleybridge, Lancashire in 1851 Census. He was born in Ireland and she was born in Yorkshire. Cheers from Australia. Pat
John Hyland did and I believe his wife Mary (Dwyer) may have been born 1833 Scotland to a John Dwyer and unk. Other than that, John and Mary were both age 30 at time of their marriage in 1853 but 1861 census tells that he was 27 born 1834 and she was 26 born 1835.
Church info for births/baptisms for the following: John Hyland B: 1855 Margaret Hyland B: 1859 Parents John & Mary residing in Little College St St Luke Chelsea Middlesex. If these are my people would like dates of the childrens' baptisms. Also helpful look up of when they left for the US, settling in Illinois USA by 1860. What happened to Bridget Hyland, sister of John? She was 23 born abt 1838? Did she go with? Did she marry? If so when, where and to whom? Who were her parents? Welcome to the list, Thelma. Can you share with me, off list, if any of your George Wilson descendants came to Sydney -- ie Joseph (Convict) about 1826? If this one turns up on your family, he is my 2 x G Grandfather. He is supposed to have "married" Sarah Thurston, but we cannot find the marriage record. They definitely had a son and then 2 daughters. (1842 - 1846) Looking forward to hearing from you. Anne from Central West NSW. Hello All. Here is yet another new map of London for your pleasure: Darton's New Plan Of The Cities Of London & Westminster, & Borough Of Southwark, 1817 http://archivemaps.com/mapco/darton1817/darton.htm The colouring on this map is quite amazing, best viewed, as always, on the enlarged views. The map shows proposed improvements across London in yellow. Always remember to 'click to enlarge' each map section, to get the full benefit of the digitized map. Do take a look! I hope that you enjoy this late Georgian map of London. Best wishes, David Hale, Adelaide, South Australia. David, I can see why you chose the Crystal Palace image as your favourite it is beautiful. Please keep up the good work in 2011. Have a great New Year and thanks from all your [extremely] satisfied co-listers. Peter Hello MAPCO Users. I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your support throughout 2010, and to wish you all the very best for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I look forward to providing you with more high quality online maps in 2011. Here is a summary of new maps and updates from 2010: http://archivemaps.com/mapco/news.htm#2010 Do take a look at what has been achieved throughout the year. It has been a very London-centric year, with 29 new London maps displayed, with a further 3 London maps already on display being completely revised and improved. The most significant additions to the site this year, and the ones that I am particularly proud of, are the 1864 and 1878 editions of Stanford's Library Map of London and its Suburbs: Stanford's Library Map Of London And Its Suburbs 1864 @ http://london1864.com Stanford's Geological Library Map Of London And Its Suburbs 1878 @ http://london1878.com Do take a look at these, and at all of the other wonderful 2010 additions to the site. If I had to pick just one particular favourite image, it would be the enlarged image of the Crystal Palace from Stanford's 1864 London Library map: http://london1864.com/stanford77b.htm It is stunning!! Enjoy this summary. There are better things to come in 2011! Best wishes, David Hale, Adelaide, South Australia. MAPCO : Map And Plan Collection Online http://archivemaps.com
